Outputshaft seal?? help

Anyone have problems with aftermarket output shaft seals? Installed one a week ago and it leaked, put in a new one yesterday and same thing. seals were neither damaged.

97 civic lx manual. right front side.

do I need to get and oem seal??

The OEM seak is cheap, so just buy one.

Describe how you installed the seal.

Is there a lot of free play in the main shaft?

Have you replaced the bearing?

Straight forward install, pull old seal out clean everything up good, use seal driver and install new seal flush with housing. Used sil glyde on the inner seal lip so cv shaft would go in nice.

Most I have talked to said they have installed aftermarket seals which all leaked and went back to oem and they worked. Pulled my first seal out and it looked perfect

Have not replaced the bearing and dont seem to have shaft play.

Check the CV axle for damage around the area that contacts the seal for any damage or scratches. I had one with the same problem before, and I kept thinking it was the seal, but it ended up being a scratch I hadn't noticed on the cv axle causing leaking.

cv axel seems fine. what do you mean by this? grooves?

The inner ring of the seal has directional grooves, with an arrow indicating the rotation direction. Most of the time its fine, I just always double check.

well I installed a oem seal last night and so far i have not seen a leak but havent driven much. however the last one leaked within 4 miles.

well everything is good to go. words of advice dont waste time putting in aftermarket outputshaft seals.

Fel-pro has always worked for me, but sometimes OEM parts are better in some circumstances.
