P0420

I recently had my distributor go bad. Replaced and now getting the dreaded p0420 cel. I understand that I guess I could have damaged the cat when the distributor went bad my dumping fuel etc. could this also be a symptom of a timing issue? My starter also seems to take a while to actually start the car, which was a symptom of wrong timing on a previous vehicle. Any thoughts?

Reset the ECU. If the same code returns, start shopping for a new cat.
