P2P Ecu questions

Car is a 1998 DX 5 spd with a 16by7 engine, we just completed a 16by8 head swap. Engine runs perfectly with the original ECU, (but no vtec). When I plug in my craigslist P2P ecu (P2P-A31), it barely runs. Searching idle, backfires through throttle body. I have not yet connected the vtec controller wires, or the knock sensor wires to the new ECU, is this the issue, or is my ECU screwy? Do these ECU's have capacitor issues, or other repairable issues?

Thanks

The P2P is for an OBD2 vehicle. Its looking for sensors that are missing from your engine. You need a ECU thats OBD1 with vtec.

I would call Chris @ Xenocron.com and tell him what you have and have him ship you a correct ECU for your application.

Im under the impression that you just thought it was as easy as swapping on a vtec head and hooking up a ECU and you'll be good to go..

???? Sorry, but I am confused by your response. I have an OBD2a engine, the head is from an OBD2a engine, I have an OBD2a ECU (in fact two of them) why in the world would I want an OBD1 ECU unless I wanted to swap chips ??? It is my understanding that the only variable is the vtec controller and the knock sensor and the P2P has the capacity to operate the vtec.
It sounds to me like the P2P has messed up timing, and I would assume that the advance curve on the P2P must be pretty close to the same as my stock (non-vtec) ECU. From my research I'm not doing a very ambitious project.

First issue is you need all your sensors hooked up correctly, second I believe the iacv of the y7 is a 3 wire iacv and you need to convert to the 2 wire y8 iacv setup. Once you fix those the car should run normal with the p2p
