I'm getting lips and a grill for my 6th gen. But they need painting. Since the parts are so "small", I want to do it myself. But I don't have access to a professional paint sprayer.

So... how can I economically priime the stuff, paint the Flamenco Black Pearl, and clearcoat the stuff. Can I buy this in can spray paint? Or what can I do?

I won't say it's too economical though. The paint still runs kinda high, but hey you can get it in a spray can.

I'm thinking about purchasing it and painting my side mirrors, side skirts and body mold. Just not sure how much I'd need or would it be cheaper to just take it to an autobody shop.

Thanks for the tip. It is expensive... sheesh. $30 for a spray can! How many cans (approximately) would it take to paint a bumper? Yikes.

I'd say go to a professional. If you screw it up, it's gonna cost you a lot more. Shouldn't cost you too much. I had the side skirts, door trim and the rear bumper of my 93 painted recently and it was $300 for all of it.

Yeah i was debating whether to paint myself or send out. I have a CTR F/R lip, Type r grill and a set of "JDM" mirrors that need to be taken apart into two pieces so they are painted properly. I'll go out and get estimates once the weather warms up. Besides, a can of clear coat isn't the same as a shop's clear.

go to a local spray paint shop. give them the color code and they will put it in a spray can for about $10-15 per can. since its new, you dont need to sand it down. just get some primer in a can and spray it, spray the paint color, get some clearcoat in a can and spray that. a shop charges $100-$150 just to paint a lip.

That clear coat in a can stuff always yellows over time..... I don't know though it would save a lot of money.

with paint its better to just let a pro do it... the most I am ever going to do with my paint is sand it and block it the rest is going to be done by the pros... that way they mess it up they fix it for free....

Wrong. You do have to scuff the parts so that the paint will adhere better. Take it to a professional. Much better results. Painting is not a "back-yard" activity. Paint booth with "down-draft" system=cleaner environment, no crap in paint, a true "paint match", even coverage on the clear(no orange peel or runs). There are many other reasons but, my beer is empty...IMO

*edit* btw, when I get all of the exterior parts I want I am taking them to a professional shop them and at the same time have them smooth the body completely (dents, dings, bumpers...it used to be a D.C. car. People just bump the hell out of each other trying to get the open street spot). You'll be much happier with the overall appearance.
