Passenger door doesn't unlock with key at driver's side

Hi Guys,

I am the proud owner of a new (to me) 1999 Honda Civic Coupe EX. I'm trying to get to the bottom of a problem I am having with the passenger door lock, and hope you can help. I did a search on these forums already. No aftermarket parts on the car.

Inside the car: both driver and passenger door locks manually open and close OK
Inside the car: both driver and passenger door locks automatically open and close OK with the power switch
Outside the car at the driver's side with key: both door locks automatically close OK, but only the driver's side lock unlocks. The passenger door does not unlock with key.
Outside the car at the passenger's side with key: passenger locks open and close OK.

Because the passenger door locks and unlocks via the power switch on the inside, I believe the actuator is OK.

What do you guys think is causing the passenger door to not unlock at the driver's side with a key?

Thanks in advance,
-Peter

my passenger door does the same thing on my 97..the problem could be that someone tried to either break in, or locked their keys in that car before you had it and tried to use a slimjim to open it and somehow it messed it up. i know for a fact that when i opened it with a slimjim that is messed it up and now i cant open the passenger door with my key anymore. and it worked perfectly fine before

Hmm, maybe that is what happened! I am going to pull open the door panel and see if I can see any damage from a slimjim, and report back here.

Yeah my passenger side door is the same way on my 2000 Civic Si. I left the car over a week when I went home on leave from the Air Force and I came back to the base and found damage on the inside of my door. Even my civic on a military installation wasn't safe at all. Previous damage done to it by morons was a busted out driver side window, and the passenger front fender and bumper backed into and know one was notifed.

hmm.. i was never able to unlock my passenger door by putting the key in the driver door. i had to unlock the driver door, open the door, and hit the door unlock button inside.

Anfrey,

After opening up the driver's side door and inspecting the mechanism, I realize that you are 100% correct. This is a new car for me (bought used) and I had been used to using the keyless Fob to open all the doors. I used the key on the door itself just for a change, and expected both doors to open. Looking at the owner's manual, I see that it isn't supposed to do that!

Oh well, now I know how to open up the door and replace the window motor when it comes to that time!

The OP figured out his own "problem", or lack thereof rather...
