my clutch is starting to go so i wanted to take a step up while i could and replace it with a stage 3 clutch. i found a stage 3 ceramic clutch kit by phoenix friction for 188 dollars not including shipping. i was going to order it, but i was afraid it would be a waste of money because there are no ratings to rely on. does anyone know something about this clutch? is it any good? if not, does anyone know of a decent stage 3 clutch? i would be willing to pay up to 300 for one. my car has just the standard d16y8 by the way.

If you aren't adding any power then you might as well get a stock replacement. No reviews and I've personally never heard of that clutch before. Having a stage 3 clutch isn't going to make your car any better... might as well go with proven an quality items. Stock clutch will last a long time if you drive it right.

well if they don't add power or performance than what is the point of them?

The plain and simple answer...because stock clutches can't handle lots of power. From my experience high stage clutches can be a pain in the ass to drive with and aren't built for a daily driver OR a car that has no power to back it up. At least that is my feeling. I wouldn't want to mess with one of them on a daily basis. Most of them are all or nothing, meaning you basically dump the clutch every time you take off and are the reason why they are usually just for race applications. I drove a GTI with a turbo'd vr6 and a stage 3 in it in town once and it was a nightmare. Now that could have been the car that was tough to drive but I know a lot of it had to do with the high stage clutch that was in it.

Good route to take. Spend the money where you need it instead of where you don't. :thumbs up

a clutch is not made to "make power" it is made to transfer power from a moving engine and help match the engine speed to the transmission, if your civic is stock there is no need for a aftermarket stage clutch since it makes it a pain to drive the higher stage clutch you go with.say you have a 300whp civic, the stock clutch would probably last maybe 100 miles with that power, it would either blow up or slip, you need more clamping force and a better friction pad on the clutch for higher hp motors.

You're forgeting that the aftermarket clutch will come with stickers that we all know make the power
