picking a hatch...

i am very very much thinking of which hatch to buy. i have come down to 5th gen but cannot decide if i should go with the vx, cx, or the dx. keep in mind i also plan on swapping after saving up for the swap (either a b18c1 or a b18b, not sure if i should go wit obdI or obdII)

i know the cx and vx are the lightest. but there are some things that i wonder about needing when i buy my car.

1. tach- i know the vx has one but can add an aftermarket tach so i dont know if this really matters. would i also be able to just get a guage cluster with a tach and put it in?

2. adjustable steering column- i know the dx has this and wonder if i would really need it.

3. rear wiper- i know this is a weird one to worry about, but sometimes it can be useful.

4. vtec wiring- would the vx still need different wiring since it has vtec-e?

5. disk brakes- i know only the si had 4 wheel disk brakes, will i be able to change the rear drum's from the cx,vx,dx to disk brakes?

6. air conditioning- can it be added if i wanted it?

and just to make sure these cars dont have power steering right?

sorry for the long post, just want to get my stuff straight.

thanks for all the inputs, im sure i left out some other little things that im considering when buyin my car. but this will do for now.

get the vx. vtec wiring is already there so it would make a b18c swap easier. disc brakes can be added to any of them, you just swap the ones off a si. you should be able to get a si cluster for the tach if you get a hatch without one. should be plug and play.

the rest are conviences, a/c is nice, i personally dont hav eit one my car. It can be added but also can be expensive if you add it in. rear wiper, i loved mine til it stopped working i used it all the time. adjustable steering colum, i have never really touched mine unless i have to pull covers off.

i know there is hella s**t you have to pull to get the rear discs swapped, and it can be a little pricey. So unless you are going to make a STRAIGHT drag car, i would go with an Si.... they have all those little creature comforts, that you will prolly enjoy. With the the OBD ? you need the one that will work with your engine... so, a 95 B18c1 is obd-1, a 96 is obd2... And if you are going with a drag car, might i suggest a CX (the lightest i believe) with a H22, cause with the H22 you won't be able to fit A/C or power steering. Plus its a cheaper swap, that will get you down the 1/4 mile a lot faster than the B18 would... my 2 cents

if you plan on doing a swap... dont worry about the v-tec wiring, or the cluster... you should get a new cluster anyway, dont worry about a/c... it's optional when you buy the motor... all hondas have power steering i believe... the rest is up to you... have fun

not all have powersteering or a/c. i have a DX coupe and it doesnt have powersteering but it did have A/C until i swapped it. If you want a/c i think you will have to start out with a car with a/c already. then once you get a swap you need the braket and the condensor from the engine you want to swap in. As for brakes you will need the whole trailor arm and brake assembly from the si or a dc2 and a proportioning valve from a non-abs 4wheel discbrake car, like a del sol. and for powersteering well you would need to get a powersteering rack or if you got powersteering aleady you just need the pump and braket for the engine you get and hook it up. I have also read that most 92 civics are already prewired for vtec. Id get the vx because it has the passenger side mirror, tach cluster and the nice 13inch rims. and if you dont get a vx or 92 civic you could just wire it your self. its only 4 wires if you get a obd1 b18c1

Get the cx. You'll need a new wiring harness anyways. It'll be cheapest, but vx isn't much more, so just go for the best deal you can find.

I own a dx and it did not come with a/c or power steering, none came with power steering. dont worry bout a/c its a easy add on, i choose none( more room in engine bay, lighter weight, just a non needed feature). everyone i know that puts money into a civic gets rid of the a/c and sells it. i love dx's personally, but si bodies are the best (sunroof) just sexy lol.

si hatch is always the way to go b/c of all the standard features. its heavier, but the car isnt going to be a full race car, so the weight is a good compromise for the comforts needed as a daily driver. its still lighter than most of the things out anyways. ohh, and my dx hatch has a/c and power steering(just wish it had a sunroof...)
