watsup guys. a friend of mine just picked this unit up for his 02 type s. i tried to bypass it like you would normally do it since there is no navy, and it won't read any dvd or anything connected to the inputs. im wondering WTF is going on since i've done other in-dash tvs wit no problem. if u have any ideas, please let me know. thanx

odd the 5700 should bypass just like any other monitor. Thats how we hooked up our display. And all the cars we put it in goes straight to the ebrake. Nothing special like on an alpine.

should just be able to ground it or run to negative on the harness, if you already did that then check your ground

u cant just ground it.. for the unit to work. the parking brake must be applied, release and reapplied. but u can do it with any switch from radio shack.

please explain this to me a little more detailed.

as for the displays at work, we hooked them up just grounding the parkin brake wire and never had a problem, they work fine, so i dont know what the problem is here. ima take the car apart tomorrow and check that all the wiring is correct on it. if i can't get it, i'll just hook up the brake wire and have him lift the e-brake just enuf to turn the light on, but not to apply presure to the wheels.

my friend has that model.. from what he told me.. when installed by the book.. the parking brake switch is installed for the unit to work.. you will need to pull up the ebrake.. put it down then pull it back up.. then the unit knows that the car is parked. but u can get a switch and simulate the procedure. a quick test is turning on the unit is by holding it down to a ground with your hand, take it off the ground, then touch the wire to the ground again. that is how to bypass it so the video will play while driving. but im not too clear on what u mean by by bypass to play dvd or any connected inputs.

I wondered if they re did the protocol on it in later models. Like I said the one that is in our display, e-brake wire straight to ground good to go

I have one of there, here is how i did it:

extra parts needed: more wire and a switch that has 3 connections on it, the top and middle are connected one way...bottom and middle connected the other.

I first went through and wired it like you are supposed to, to the parking brake
-then I took the wire that comes from the deck, cut that, and hooked that up to the middle prong on the switch.
-then on one side of the switch you wire it to the brake
-other side you wire it to groung.

the reason for this is because the unit needs to see ground/nothing/ground.
you just flick the switch up and down once and there you go...video when you want it,,but if you want to be safe, hit the switch one way, and it works as intended...with the parking brake.

hope that helps.

the switch I got is like $3 at Radioshack.

thanx for the post, but i actually figured it out yesterday. i was playin wit wires and s**t and remembered that some units need to see the difference in "ground" in order for them to work. so i got an on/off switch from my toolbox, hooked 1 side to the parkin wire and one side to ground and it works when u flick the switch.

thanx everyone for their help.

I would say thats a bad input on the unit. If it did it on all video I would say geta video amp. But with it doing it on the audio it might be defective
