I have recently bought a 1999 Honda Civic EX w/ the y8, I am looking to boost it. I have been searching but unable to find rods and pistons.

Then only thing I have found for pistons is Stock Comp.

I want to post a min of 10 with a goal of 18 - 20.

Thanks in advance.

Now I'm no mechanical engineer so call me stupid for asking, but why do you need a higher comp. ratio if your boosting? Wouldn't turning up the boost be just as good, and wouldn't having a high comp. ratio make your engine a hell of a lot harder to tune under boost?

Never said anything about high comp or I don't think I did. Stock for the y8 the comp is 9.6:1. The pistons I posted are 8.8:1

Anyway, yes stock compression should be fine as long as you use forged internals. A stock engine can run 12psi safely, so you should be able to at least run 16-17 without a problem on forged internals. 20psi is a lot of boost though, that should put you at 350hp, I've only seen track civic's with that much on a sohc; never a daily driver. Head on over to turbod16.com they have a ton of info on this.

more c/r = more whp per # at the expense of higher EGT's.

My build is between 8.5 to 8.7 c/r.

Yeah I saw that. Actually helped me out.

Actually read through the forums for a little while. Learned some stuff kind of re-thinking how much boost I want. Thinking about lowering c/r to 9.1:1 to boost up to 16. People on here told me 12 psi on forged pistons at stock c/r but I want to boost a little bit more.

Thanks for all the help guys.

stay around 9:1 cr.with forged pistons and rods you will be able to handle a good amount of boost without a doubt, just get a good tune, its all in the tune, itll make you or break you.

*edit* you also need to take into consideration turbo size, its not all about psi

I must agree with its all in the tune. As of the moment I am looking for the best managment system for my car. AEM EMS, Hondata? Just saw something about NepTune so I am going to go look into that more.

aem, hondata, uberdata, neptune are all good systems.however you need to find a shop in your area that is known for high quality work and use whatever they normally do.where im at,id use hondata.

yep... not about psi at all. its the power level your engine can take. if you are just doing pistons and rods...i would stay under 300 whp. holy crap dude, do NOT spend that much on rods...just go with eagle h-beams...they are like $300 shipped, and good for 600 whp....more than enough for what youll be doing....but be prepared to notch the block to be able to make the rods fit. hope it works out...im working on a z6...pretty much the same thing as you are working on. what turbo are you using? and what manifold?

why would u have to notch the block??? i also want to turbo mine and i can only stay at around 180 hp(parents) but at the track would like to have a different setting so i can be super fast lol without blowing the motor... also if i got the turbo installed with the management system, how am i supposed to get it to the dyno? its like 45-hr away???
