i will soon be boosting my y8 and i need to know what to get for tuning my p28 ecu. ya ive tried to understand by reading pgmfi and phearable and all that but its boggling my mind right now. I plan to just order everything off of moates. I will probably get the ostrich but does that mean i still have to get a chip kit and a chip burner and datalogging or what. please help. a list of parts would be appreciated. cus my mind is going insane right now thanks

best thing to do is send your ecu off to be chipped. i recommend www.xenocron.com. he does awesome work and is very quick.
if you get the ostrich, you dont necessarily need a burner because the Ostrich can just stay permanantly in your car. but if you ever want to pull it out for someone else to use or sell it, you are going to need your bin burned onto a chip.
as for datalogging, i would say it depends on what tuning program or wideband you are using. Innovate have built in datalog i believe as well as a few other widebands. if you are using Crome Pro or anything like that with built in datalogging, definately get your ecu set up for it so you can utilize the rom editors functions.

bare necessities:
chipped ecu - datalogging
chip burner and chips
wideband(i feel this is a must)
Crome Free
laptop

luxuries:
chipped ecu - datalogging
chip burner and chips
Ostrich
wideband
Crome Pro, Hondata, Neptune, etc.
laptop

honestly, if you have spent time reading and still arent understanding, you might want to have someone else tune your car for you. in that case, i reccomend whatever program your tuner uses.

if you are tuning on your own and trying to save money, Crome Pro is the way to go

im not saying that at all...

as far as what ecu, the cheapest obd1 vtec conveted one you can find. a p06 converted to vtec will work just as well as a chipped p28. once they are chipped, they are generally about the same thing

you want a p28, assuming you have VTEC. You might just want to buy a chipped ecu if you dont already have the tools to chip one, itll cost you less. Once you have the chipped ecu you need a conversion harness (assuming your obd2), from obd2-obd1. Then, you hook all that up to your car. Then you download whatever program you want to use (uberdata, chrome, whatever works for your application). So with that program, you are trying to edit the information on your chip on in ecu. So you need a chip burner. I recommend the moates burn1 chip burner which can be found @ www.moates.net. So you pull the chip out of your ecu, put in the chip burner, change the settings, put the chip back in your ecu and repeat until your car runs perfect <-- the process of "tuning". Youll also probably need a wideband 02 sensor in order to accurately record your settings..
