Hey honda headz, Iv'e had my 4 door for appx 6 months and I just in the past couple of days noticed a strange sound. When I accelerate out of a complete stop I hear a noise that is almost like a single popping noice. It only seems to do it from a complete stop, just because I can't hear it it might be happening more. I have always drove mid engine cars ( got rid of my fiero fastback gt and my mr2), and have heard from friends that it could be cv joints maybe, I don't know much about front wheel drive but am learning . Any help would be greatly appreciated. My cat loves my honda!!

popping?

It sounds like the front passenger side however it might not be the front, it's hard to tell. It also does it when it stop sometimes.

k, i know your a newb, so ill be polite with you

make sure that you hit the "post reply" button instead of the "new thread" button like how you did when you just replied.

as far as your topic, have someone stand outside of your car so you can target in on where the sound may be coming from

That definately sounds like cv joints, i used to have a chrysler lhs before my honda, and that big boat was front wheel drive. I chewed up a set of cvs on that car and when you accelerate and sometimes stop it popped, also could be your control arms but not likely.

Could also be some BADLY hammered engine mounts. Does the single POP sound like someone hitting the floor with a ball peen hammer? Pop the hood, set the parking brake and accelerate lightly while observing the engine for movement...or let a automotive technician check it out

cv joints or maybe a loose motor mount. do you have an intake? if your intake is loose it will sometimes hit something, but usually doesnt make a big noise. i would say cv joints. probably replace the axles it there is water in there. all they are is a rubber boot that holds grease. if the grease is gone, replace the axle. it is actaully very inexpensive and you could probably do it yourself to save you the price.

if its more like a quiter pinging noise, than try pumping some higher octance in your engine. its your engine saying i cant run like this without good food basicly. This is if its a "pinging" noise coming from the engine bay during high reving.

It's not my intake or lugs, I had someone ride in my passenger seat and they said they could feel something under the floorboard when it popped, strange though, it seems to bve doing it less. I have to keep driving until I can get it looked at this weekend, hope nothing seriously f's up.

My 95 civic was doing that 2 months after i bought it and it was the motor mounts, i thought it was the CV joints at first so i bought brand new ones for both sides with no luck on the noise ,so then i went to plan B the motor mounts, i replaced them with poly urathane motor mounts and haven't heard the noise since, you can usually tell when the motor mounts go bad because there feels like there is a lotta play in the drive train, i noticed the diff when i changed the mounts big time, the drive train felt nice and tight

does it do it more often when you turn... of so... its your axles.... also, if you have an aftermarket exhaust, it could be rattling against your body...also could be a cracked flywheel....
