Don't know if there's already a thread like this, but I'm planning on tearing my system apart and going with a new layout, so I'd like to see what other people have done to get more ideas. I didn't get to quite finish everything, but here's what I got:

x2, I like polk, had some great polk subs n components back in the day.

I miss my bumps sometimes, then i hit the onramp going 90 round the circle and that memory fades very quickly.

+1 to the phase. I had a set of 10's that I threw in when I picked up the civic. I have had these 10's since highschool (more than 10 years). It is just too much in this little car and I have decided to downsize to just one. Instead of spending a ton of money on new amps, subs, enclosure, etc. I went out and picked up an in dash touch screen and am going to go a little more towards sound quality than loud bumps.

I have a 12" RE sub with an Alpine PDX-1.600. It is more power than I'd ever need but the stock speakers suck (97 Ex) and I do like a little "bump". However, I am NOT the guy that rattles his trunk at stop lights/signs lol

my trunk used to be sound, my whole car infact, you couldn't even hear it till i rolled down the window or opened the door. With zero sound deadening.

I had nice clean base, zero distortion uber clean, it sounded great.

Good sound is not a phase, either you're an audiophile or youre not. Have you ever seen even a decent home theater system without a subwoofer? The answer is no, because it is impossible to replay music accurately and effectively without the use of a variety of sized speakers. Car audio is the same in that regard. Now buying 2 12" subs and making noise, not listening to music, that is a fad.

I think thats what they were saying.

Nothing wrong with having a loud system if your into spl, but if that the case then go get an old van and do spl comps =]

Very true,
my bose OEM system in my car is sufficient, although i do want some clearwater replacements, my car has 8inch speakers in the door so there's room for enough bass w/this equipment for me.

The Sound
Upon first listening to the system you will notice a vastly improved clarity and detail in your music. A well recorded CD will open your eyes and amaze you at what you have missing. Deep and clear bass without strain will be more than apparent on this new system.

Even on “Talk Radio” you will notice improved intelligibility, and will find it easier to understand what is said even at lower volumes.

Really? What don't you like. It was my first system install and I'm kind of happy with the way it turned out. Like I noted in my op, I didn't really get to finish. I was working within a really tight time frame. I will admit, I totally screwed up with the tweeter pods.

Anyone else gonna post pics? haha, i need some ideas!

If you're happy, that's all that matters.

+2 to that.

If you want some opinions though. I personally don't like the black on tan. I have a gauge pod on the pillar that is black on top of the gray panel and I can't stand it. You should paint or cover the pods in the doors and the pillars to match. That or if you are changing the interior, get the rest of the stuff in black. Sometimes mixing colors turns out really well, but in the case of pods (from what I have seen) they just look out of place when they are different colors. It really just looks like they are stuck on top and don't blend in like they should.

The concept and idea was great. I really like door pods like that, but they should be flushed and blended in as to look like a part of the door not just mounted on top.

I also like the sub box. I just needs finished. The raw material isn't that appealing, but it isn't seen so I can understand where you are lax on that.

I like the flush panel you did over the amps. I am going to do that to mine when I get the chance. I really don't like that you can see all the wires on mine. They are just stuck in for now and I will come up with something a little nicer in the future.

All in all, great ideas, it just needs a little working, flushing, color matching, and finishing.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback, I'll keep it in mind this summer when I change things up a bit.

I thought black would have matched well with the speakers and I think it does for the ones in the door, but I will admit, tweeter pods turned out like trash. I definitely have to do something about them.

here's my two cents. it kinda looks ghetto rigged no offense, it's not about size for the front doors it's more quality. i have two 6 inch JL evolutions, and the JL evolution tweeters. btw your placement of the tweeters is the least ideal spot you can have for them almost. You want the tweeters like right above the door speaks so they can harmonize. Your car will sound alot better that way. But like the other guys have said do what you like, it's all about reflecting your own "style" i guess... idk if that makes perfect sense. But yeah good luck with the rest of the install

Cool, thanks. Actually the great thing about these components is that they have excellent off-axis response so you don't need to mount the tweeters next to the driver. I used to have both the driver and tweeter in kick panels for a bit and i found that the sound stage was too low, plus I was too afraid someone was going to accidentally kick a pair of $900 speakers! ... so i moved them. I originally wanted them flush in the door panels like you suggested, but having them aim upwards a bit helps heighten the sound stage. I know they stick out a little, but that was a decision i decided to make.

Any pics would be cool, but its up to you.
