Potential 4th Gen Civic Si Owner!!

Hi there, currently I'm looking to buy a 4th Gen Civic Si (1999-01). I was wondering if there is anywhere on this website that will list problems with this car (ha, its a honda i know but some cars have small annoying issues such as random noise in the compartment), or can anyone list me some issues? Also how long do the Civic Si motors last usually? Is it better to buy a high mileage civic si, then replace the engine? Just the general questions that a new buyer wants to know. I'm looking forward to becoming a civic si owner.

P.S. Here's some cars i'm looking at, please tell me if any of these cars pose any issues. Thank You

Si #1
Si #2

P.S.S. I also noticed that #2 has an after market exhaust, does this pose any threats at all, meaning do you think this driver ran this car into the ground? What should I look or feel for when test driving these cars, do certain gears stick or not stick?

as to my understanding there is no website that will list any potential issues. this is only based on experience and what you hear from others.

tips, cars that are in better conditions and are more desirable ( in my opinion) are those that have not been tampered with, they are are all stock, and are clean title. the 2nd civic is iffy, because its under price, I am assuming it is not a clean title. the first civic, black one, is about the right price in what you should expect to pay.

I would prefer to get a less mileage engine, you dont want a high mileage engine because a swap will boost up the overall cost of the car. If you have the money to swap you might as well buy another year civic and do the swap, but it wouldnt have the title Si, which is what you want.

so just make sure it has the original engine, look at the Vin number in the tranmission and make sure it matches the vehicles VIN number.

also check car fax and look at the cars history, this is crucial and it will tell you if the car ever had any severe damages, if the original car was from another state, its a bad sign...

other than that you have to drive it. it needs to be smooth...well you know how good cars should feel when you ride them.

do some research on how to inspect a car properly when buying a used car there is alot of info on the web.
