Power legg?

Hey guys, so I got a 96 civic si (CAN) 5 speed. it has a d15 vtec in it.

Last night me and my buddys went to race, i punched it and my vtec hits at 5500, but at around 4800 my car just has like a power leg until it hits vtec, can any one explain this?** this happends in 1st

I think it might have something to do with my fuel filter or fuel pressure regulator, or the injectors.

my car has no balls because of this issue i couldnt even hit 5000 in 5th on the hwy going up a hill dropped to 4th still wouldnt hit, stayed at 4600 not going past 130km.

any help would be apprechiated thanks.

Fuel or timing is my thought. Is the car modified? How long have you owned it? Any history? Perhaps someone demodded it when you bought it and the ECU is tuned for something it doesn't have anymore... Lots to know/check on. How are your plugs? Cheap and people tend to look over them until the car actually stops running. You'd be surprised what a difference new plugs can have when gapped correctly.

no mods, just new engine, ill look into all this thanks, ive had the car a month, but first time racing it last night
