Anyone have a prestige alarm? I called a local shop and they said they only sell prestige alarms. How does prestige compare to viper and valet (dei)?

Prestige is made by Audiovox. They have cheap and high end model too. Depends what you are looking for.

You cant just give the alarm a thumbs down from those facts that you just stated. First off, how was the car broken into?

Was the window shattered? If it was, then the shock sensor wasnt properly adjusted to sense that impact. Hell, Im pretty sure that if you throw a piece of a spark plug (Porcelin or however you spell it) at any car with any alarm, Im sure the alarm wouldnt sense it. Unless the shock sensor was turned up, and mounted at the right location.

Was it slim jimmed? Again, Im going to blame the shock sensor not being turned up.

If her car was boken into, and the alarm didnt sound off... Ok, I'll give you the benifit of the doubt that the alarm was faulty. Your friend CAN test it out. Roll the windows down, arm the car, wait a couple seconds, and unlock the car manually. If the car sounds off, then the door trigger is fine, thus the alarm is fine. If it doesnt, the door trigger isnt properly connected. Now you cant blame the alarm. Blame the INSTALLER.

Ive tested no namer shock sensors along with brand name shock sensors. Audiovox got my vote on being the most sensitive to shock over Viper and Clifford and the no namers. My test was ran by powering all the shock sensors side by side, with the sensitivity turned all the way up, and thowing a coin in the air, and looking to see which sensor picks up the vibration. My co-workers thought I was retarded, but I was just bored and curious but Audiovox definately IMO based on my tests has the best sensitivity.

Get your s**t installed by a popular/reputable installer. Or do it yourself. Just make sure you test everything before you replace your dash back together. I dont know how many times Ive installed alarms without testing it, and after I put everything back (Like the dash panels and such) and start testing the alarm... I find that I missed a wire, or didnt push in a tap all the way. My opinion: No alarm is that shitty, only shitty installers.

i have prestige and they're not as reliable as viper. i would go with a viper alarm. i've never had problems with them. with the prestige i had in my accord, the arm disarm wouldn't work unless you're by the door so you couldn't turn it off when the alarm goes off from far away. I spent $300 on something that didn't really work. i had a lot of problems with it. like i said, I've never had problems with viper alarms.

but then again i got mine installed at GoodGuys. I swear if someone says they can install, they'll instantly hire them not knowing what that person means by knowing installation.

I never have that problem with Prestige. I can arm and disarm from far away and mine is the cheapest prestige.

yea I tried that on her car on 2 times before the incident, and THE ALARM WOULD GO OFF, SO WE BLAME THE ALARM

after the installation her alarm was tested and everything worked fine

all of what i'm sayin is based on experiences from friends that I've seen
So after watching those kinds of things happen to my friends I decided to go with something that has a good reputation and on MY book prestige just doesnt cut it

I can arm and disarm it at least 40 feet away. On my other car, I have bestbuy installed Viper or Rattler alarm on it. I have to practically stand in front of the car to arm or disarm it. I really don't know whether it is bad alarm or bad installer.

No alarm is 100% secure though. I have heard ppl with $500 alarm and the thieves still manage to get into the car without any trace.

Oh there are alarms that shitty...and ebay and other online seller are providing them.

...but the majority of problems with alarms I encounter are installer related. I don't know how many times I have had a client have a "problem" with my unit only to go under the dash and find a rat's nest of wires the alarm installer stripped and taped in.

"The problem is the alarm."

" It can't be the alarm...it's a (insert brand name here)"

" Well let me clarify, the installer stripped and taped the power wire and when it got hot, it came loose so your starter cut out relay couldn't work."

by now the client has a blank stare and usually follows up with a complaint of some sort about my ability.
