Problem after changing front brake pads

I just changed the front pads this post Saturday. Now I'm getting some kind of noise (sort of a grinding) from the left front wheel area. Any ideas what I may have done wrong? The brake job seemed so damn easy. I didn't even touch anything besides the lower bolt on the caliper. Should the pads with the little metal piece sticking up be mounted on the outside of the rotor, or on the inside?

Check the dust shield, it could be scraping up against the rotor.
