Problem With Select Lever

Hi. First post. I disassembled my center console and some of my dash a couple days ago. When I was reassembling it. I had a bit of an issue. This is an automatic by the way. When I screwed in select lever knob, i was able to shift gears but my key wouldn't release. When i unscrew the knob and remove it. I am able to remove my key again. So I am unsure and would like some help with this please

Update: When I install the shift knob. Sometimes when i mess (shake) the select lever. I am able to remove the key. Hopefully this narrows the issue down so someone may guide me
