Purchased car having slight problems.

I have recently come into contact with a little 93 Honda Civic ex coupe with a D15 motor in it. Fun little car to drive but its just having slight problems and before I go to a shop and ask what's wrong with the obvious problems I thought I might as well ask people who will answer for free. Anyways, the car starts up great. It used to be an automatic but it was swapped for a five speed and I feel like that caused some problems. The car idles funny. After starting up, it shoots from 1000-2000 rpm constantly. Like I'm revving the engine. Another thing is, it's smoking a little and the smoke smells slightly sweet. There is a fluid leaking from the head gasket. Seems to be oil. I was wondering if anybody could shed some light on possible problems I could be having based on the info given.

What CEL codes are thrown?

White smoke in the exhaust? Engine overheating and/or losing coolant?

lol sounds exactly like my car, when i bought it little did i know it had a burnt piston and f**ked up cylinder had to replace the motor. All i can say is you better hope you got some $$ to repair it if is something along the lines as that. Not something you wanted to hear but yeah :\

the up and down idle is caused by a clogged idle air control motor or it just went bad. I would try to clean it first considering they are normally pretty pricey. also check the hoses going to it.
