Questions about my 1997 EX Coupe

I have a few questions about the civic I recently purchased...

My car didn't come with the owner's manual, how I could check that my car is in fact an EX?

What kind of engine do I have?

What is the difference in power between a SOHC and a DOHC. Is it worth the money to swap?

What is the best way to protect my car from theft? I don't want to spend as little as possible.

Thank you

you will have all power options....windows, locks, sunroof, steering....
the side moldings will be the same color as the car...
there should be a "EX" badge under the taillight...
you will have cruise control, and AC
take some pictures...and maybe thatll help us help you...

pop the hood...look at the engine code...it should say D16Y8..
the cirlce shows the vtec solenoid...and the arrow will point to the engine code...it will be on hte block, below the exhaust manifold

http://www.clubcivic.com/specs/6th-gen.php
use the search button...

this page will show you the specs...no...just ssave the money on the swap and go nitrous or forced induction...nitrous is the bigest bang for the buck...

to prevent your car from being stolen, install a hidden killswitch, and get an alarm....

but the best way is to keep it factory...dont do nothing to it

quickest way(s) to tell its an ex is/are look at side moldings and see if they match the color of the car -OR- look at the engine code on the block (should be d16y8 for ex, d16y7 for cx/dx/lx, d16y5 for hx)

diff b/t sohc and dohc is well, dohc has 1 more cam and generally has more power (exception being a couple of the 5th gen d16's i think). as for a swap, depends on what motor is going into what car and what ur plans are.

best way to protect from theives? simple, keep it stock. the more u add, the more attention it gets and the higher chance people will want ur car. u dont want to spend as little as possible? install as many kill switches as you can and get a nice alarm.

ur questions are very vague. u could've figured this all out on ur own with the search button.

Dual OverHead Camshafts - DOHC
Single OverHead Camshaft - SOHC

DOHC has 2 cams instead of 1 and yes it is worthy if you're going for a DOHC-VTEC swap. Your car will still be slow unless you boost it, tho.

edit: you asked the power differences :S

generally:
b16a has 150-170bhp
b16b ctr engine has 185bhp
b18b dohc non vtec engine has 130bhp
the only dohc D-series (non-VTEC zc or d16a9) has 130bhp

and you know the sohc D's, usually they are between 100~ish and 120~ish bhps

correct me if i'm wrong =)
