Questions concerning OBD2 to OBD1 conversion...

I'm working on my '99 Civic Si. Looking at increasing my boost to about 10-12 on my JRSC, using water/meth to keep IAT's down, and possibly installing forged pistons (not sure I'll produce enough power to warrant them at this stage). Currently running 5-7 psi and an FMU. Am under the impression I can get much better results with a tunaeble ECU and seems going OBD1 and running a chip tuned with Chrome or something similar would be great for my car. Question is, what ECU should I look into purchasing? I'm seen mention of P28 alot and a few mentions of a P72/P73. And a couple places mentioned a P30. Which ECU should I look into? And once I have a socketed ECU and a chip with basemap I need only a harness to make it plug and play and a full tune correct? Thanks.

Just as a side note, I bought this car with the SC on it and the belt shredded today from wear and tear. Didn't realize how much difference that 5-7psi made. So slow now, gotta replace belt friday. Love my boost.

P28 is usually the starting point though for a couple less dollars, you can get a P06 and chip it as well. They're all the same ECU once you chip them and use CROME (no H) to put a new map on them. I have several myself but nothing with a base tune for boost so if you just want a place to start, hit me up if you can't find anything local. Have you done any research on Hondata? That's probably your best bet if you have someone doing your tuning. Get a P28 chipped with Hondata and an OBD2 to 1 jumper harness and you're all set to go.

... Though you don't really NEED Hondata, a CROME tune would do if you have a solid tuning shop/person who knows how to do it. You're running untned on boost right now I take it?

BTW, P30 is actually the correct ECU but because they're so rare and expensive it's a waste of money to mess with when a $40 ECU can be made into a $125+ ECU with a little know how.

I found a site called HA Motorsports that sells a chipped and socketed P28 with a base map for $159 and the harness for like $30. Then just gotta install that and take it to a tuner that can do crome right? Yeah, it is untuned running and fmu to control fuel based on boost.

Also checked out Pherable.net and they can tune an ECU for my car based off of its current mods and include an OBD2B-OBD1 conversion harness for $234. Is this a good price? Would I require a retune on a dyno to dial it in better or would it be pretty well set as is?

I have several Pxx's chipped to what ever that i sell/sold locally for $120. Figure a obd2 to obd1 jumper harness is $100+. I'd say $234 is pretty good considering it's a base map for your current set up. And you're right, it'll be safely tuned but not fine tuned like a pro can do on a dyno or street tuned. Still, I say it's absolutely worth it.

I found the harness for $90 on HAmotorsports and Phearable had them for $59. Thinking maybe i'll just order that and then once I've got a little more cash get it dyno tuned. When tuning should i go hondata or crome? Seems Crome is not very popular... I like the cost though.. Lol

Ok. Have decided to remain at 5-7 psi for now and get the Phearable ECU tuned to my car and mods to run around on for now while I save for forged pistons and more boost. My question is, when I install the new ECU do i uninstall the FMU?

Check out xenocron.com that is where I got my chipped ecu. I would ask your tuner what they like because hondata is expensive as hell.also make sure you buy an obd2b- obd1

Yeah. I would like hondata but it is expensive and i like the cost of crome. The pherable ecu is $170 or so and the obd2b-obd1is $59. Tuned on crome. Will check out xenocron and see prices on if.thanks.
