New to car audio etc, have all the stuff i need except the amp. If i have 8 speakers and a sub, would i need an 8 channel amp, or a 9 channel? I don't know if the sub takes up a channel of if an 8 channel comes with a sub-out as well as room for 8 speakers.

Also, anybody have any tips for wiring up a 99 coupe? Never done an amp before so im not sure how to link the stereo straight into the amp before it goes into everything else. Thanks! ^_^

if you find an 8 channel amp, let me know.

you'd need 2, 4 channel amps. and one for the sub, if you want to do it that way.

google how to install an amp

I have personally always been a fan of installing a dedicated front/rear amp and a seperate sub amp, whether you wanna go stereo bridged or a mono-block style amp. but integrated 5/6 channel amps are an option too; Soundstream comes to mind right off the bat.

Here's a video showing a typical overview of what it takes to put in an amp.

Are you using component sets? If your putting component sets front and rear, you'll need one 4 channel amp for them, then a 1 or 2 channel amp for the sub.
I've never heard of an amp bigger than 6 channels.

Well currently i have 4x infiniti in the car, small in the front 6x9 in the back, both 350w, i also have a pair of Vibe 350w 6x9's and a pair of mitsubishi 500w 10" speakers in my room, for which im going to cut and make a box that fits flush behond the drop-down rear seats of my coupe, so theyre only exposed if i drop my rear seats down, and otherwise not on display as a "please steal my s**t" statement

So you have 2 sets of coaxial speakers. Either way, a 4 channel amp will run all your inside speakers. Is your radio stock?

Not sure if i only have 2 sets of speakers? But if i do then i guess i do lol, new to the audio stuff. So yeah, 4x infiniti, 2x vibe, 2x mitsubishi, and my sub. As for radio its a sony xplod i got for free heh. So a 4 channel amp will run 8 speakers and a sub?

You would probably want to get a mono amp for the sub otherwise it will be underpowered. If you do power them all off one amp though make sure it has a crossover.

get a nice 4 channel amp....run the fronts off the amp...leave the rears on deck power and bridge the rear of the amp to the sub/subs...the rear speakers are for "rear fill" for the most part and dont need to be heard as loud as the front...your soundstage should be coming from in front of you...as if Pearl Jam is playing on top of the dash in front of you...

4x infinite, 2x vibe, 2x mitsubishi? I don't know what all that is. I think your saying the Infinity's are a component set and the other two are coaxials? Where are you gonna put 2 pairs of coaxials and a component set? Some pics of all this stuff would help.
Aftermarket radio is good, you need RCA cables to send the sound from the radio to the amps. You need 3 pairs; 1 for the fronts, 1 for the rears, 1 for the sub. If you Sony deck even has 3 pairs of outputs. It may only have 1 or 2. If there's only 1, it's probably a sub only output. If there's 2, they're probably for front and rear inside speakers, and no sub.
You need either a 4 channel and a 1or 2 channel.
Or just a 5 channel.
Or just a 6 channel.

It doesn't matter if an amp is 1 or 2 channel, what matters is how much power it puts out.

That's definitley another way to do it.
Personally, I like to be completely surrounded by the sound equally front to rear.

Thanks for your thoughts guys, and here goes.

I have a setup in the car already, 2x small Infiniti in the front door panels i cant remember the inches of, and 2x infiniti in the rear, where the standard speakers in a 99 coupe are, and my sub in the boot running off one of them (because im too cheap to buy an amp just for that yet.

On my bedroom floor, i have 2x mitsubishi 10" speakers with seperate tweets that came out of a mates place, and 2x vibe 6x9 speakers that are the same as the infiniti ones i have in the car at the moment. So i have 4 in the car already, and 4 on my bedroom floor.

Will upload a few pics of the ones in my room soon as my camera gets a bit of charge on it

although...those vibes wont like just deck power...i say leave the current ones in the rear deck (plus its a pain in the Ass to get them out)...amp and tune the system...then decide if you need better rear fill...
