Okay, this is actually is in my Rodeo, but hopefully someone has an idea. Was riding home with the wife yesterday and we turn on the radio, get a huge crackle, zap and the radio dies along with the clock and dome light. After inspection all the fuses were good (even the radio) except for the dome light fuse. I took out the bad fuse and put in a new one. Everything works again as long as the radio is not plugged in. As soon as I plug in the wire harness it blows again. All the grounds seem to be good without any frays. I'm just wondering if it has something to do with the inside of the head unit or somewhere else. I don't want to get another unit an blow it as soon as I install it. The kicker is everything is still completely stock.

direct short...try unplugging the speakers...then plug in the deck...if it still pops a fuse then its more than likely the head unit...reground the deck if you can...cut the factory one and try your own...
