i have a 98 civic hx (candian model), i bought the car a month ago very good deal and perfect canidate for dd/trck car, but anyway it had a aftermarket radio and no keyless remote, i changed the radio out with my nicer alpine and in the process i found several harnesses going to a silver box and tied in with the radio that had a honda sticker on it, i dont know what it is, i dont have the premium stereo from factory so i dnt think its a amp? if anyone could explain to me what it is or does that would be great, and second how do i know or find out if the car has the keyless entry option and i jst need a remote? if not ill get a aftermarket alarm,

that silver box is your cars ECU.....the engine control unit.
it is the BRAIN of your engine, car....everything! it runs anything electronic, any timing and other things involved in the processes of your cars running correctly.

im not sure about the keyless entry.

The keyless system of 96-98 Civics is integrated into the radio. Do you have power locks? If so, look behind the radio for the 16P connector for the wireless system. If you locate the connector, find a 96-98 Civic EX or LX in a junk yard and take the radio. The rear of the radio should look like this:
