radio works, no sound out of speakers

so I was helping a friend out...

had a cd player in her car. Had an amp and two boxes in the back.

the amp was not wired and none of the speakers were working except the boxes.

so I pulled the head unit out, and the sub boxes were wired with speaker wire directly to the radio.

wired the harness up to the radio correctly, hoping that the front speakers would work, but no sound...and they are brand new pioneers.

the cd player takes the cd and starts playing it, just no sound...wired up the amp and the boxes correctly, and no sound from the boxes...

So I pulled the head unit out and put another older one I had into it....still no noise at all...

the car is a geo tracker...not honda I know, but I wired my old toyota and my honda exactly the same as I did this one... and everything always worked perfect for me.

I should have never bothered with it, but now that I have, I at least want it to work half ass like it did...

A number of things could have happened. Make sure the speakers are actually wired correctly into the harness. If all else fails and the amplifier is a four channel, just wire the speakers into the amp and go on your way.

I was under the impression that if the speakers were wired backwards even, they would still make some noise...

I am planning on checking the amp from her car on the sub in my car on wednesday...and trying to find a spare speaker to wire to her radio to see if it works to diagnose whether all the components are blown...its possoble I guess, but highly unlikely

to say the least, it is very frustrating to have to clean up someone elses work...

I need all the suggestions I can get

Instead of using factory wiring for the speakers, use reg speaker wire and route it to the appropriate speakers. If you still have no sound after that, its your head unit. (or maybe balance and fade)

Well I plugged up another head unit that I know works...same deal...so I unplugged all of the speakers and connected a speaker one at a time to each(front left, front right, rear left, rear right) and still no sound from any of them. My question now is...do all of the speakers need to be wired for sound out of just one speaker(like is there a circuit that has to be completed using the speakers...)? I get that idf any of the speakers are grounded/shorted out, this will short out the whole system...but I don't see how it would if i disconnected all of them.

Pluss her head unit was making sound out of two aftermarket speaker boxes. They were wired directly to the radio...but the genius I am, I don't remember how they had it...

I tested her amp yesterday, and it worked, however, it didn't hardly move my one sub 10"...my amp is a 600watt 4 channel sony amp, and hers is a 400 watt 4 channel sherwood amp. It powered up and all but just didn't move my sub very hard( and I had it bridged). Also, her head unit and the extra one I got only has one set of audio outputs, but the amp has a front and a rear...what to do? and sinse its a 4 channel, do I just hook a speaker to each channel? oh yeah...her audio cables for her amp say positive and negative...weird cause mine just say left and right...

Thanks for your imput so far...

Are you trying to use the factory wiring when u test this stuff? PM me and lets troubleshoot everything.

I just thot of something.... if the power line coming in is shorting out, or theres not enough power going to the head units amps (yes they have small amps in them to power the speakers) then it will have enough to make the face light up and thats it... you might need a voltage tester (radio shack) to check the power line. could be a bad grounding wire as well...

so can I just run a direct power and ground wire...? would the radio always stay on if I did that?

wire it directly to the battery, ground it to the chassis, if it works, you now know your where your problem lies.

obviously the factory speaker wiring could be a problem. run new speaker wire from the deck to the each of the speakers. if it still doesnt work then you have eliminated one variable.

well I could have worked on it yesterday (yes I'm still messing with it...). I only see her twice a week and we don't get a lot of free time...and yesterday she decided it would be more fun to get high...so... we'll have to run direct power and a ground and new speaker wire tomorrow
