RCA plugs to HU are keeping my Amp on!!

Hi everyone! Im looking for a little help if you can.
I got a new civic and took my system out of my old one to put in the new. I hooked everything up the same way and grounded to the same place. I had everything working last night but when i woke up the smorning it worked for 15 seconds and shut off. When i got to where i was going i turned my car off and the amp light stayed on. I have the remote wired connected to the blue/ white stripe wire so i know its not that.

When i unplugged my RCA's from my head unit though, the light went out.
I checked all my connections and it is still doing this. The weird thing is that i dont even have to plug them in the back of the HU to make the amp light come on, all i have to do is touch the metal on the back of it.

Is this a short or is something not grounded right? As of now I have everything grounded on a bolt by my taillights. Could it be a grounding problem?

If there are any ideas i would be very greatful

im hoping its nothing worse. im just took out all the RCA wires that were ran and am getting ready to pull out my remote to check it. The only thing is that even when its not connected the RCAs are putting power to the amp

MTX amps turn on when they detect signal coming thru the RCA cable. They do this so if you have a stock radio with a line-out converter you dont have to worry about the remote wire, if you have a volt meter, check if after the radio is off is putting off any voltage off of the pre-amp outputs (RCAs)

alright. ill have to borrow my buddies cause i personally dont own one. And this amp never did this in my old car though. It was a 96 honda civic, do you think that matters?

If the radio still has voltage, the problem is your radio, if not, your RCA wires might be shorting to ground.

First of all check if there's voltage in the RCAs on the amplifier side, so in case you dont have voltage you dont need to take the radio out.
If you do have voltage, then go ahead and check the radio.

I had this same problem with a friend's mtx amp and sony radio till the car got broken into..lol

Im gonna try that too. im hoping not to put any money in this but i gues if i have to i will. I put my ground on those little bolts by the tail lights thats probly not the greatest place.

by the way looking at what you upgraded to car wise is exactly what i just did. i had a 96 and got a 99

i used to ground to the bolt on the tails lights, it was alright. But yes, you are correct its probably not the best place. If your not putting out that much power then its ok.

Thats not really a good ground, but i would think it if wasnt getting enough power/ground the amp would go into protection mode and not work. which is opposite of your problem.

Yeah my 96 had way less miles(60k) than my 99 (which currently has 95k miles) but i had to sell it to pay for "college" but then I saved $4k and i could buy my 99. it had 75k miles when i bought it.

well my amp won't hit either though. it did but not now. so maybe it could be more than one problem.

my 96 had 175,000 and it was starting to burn oil. my 99 now has got only about 40,000 on the engine and trans. It has all been redone
