Re amp issues

Alright so I just got a Boss BV9982 Headunit for my car to replace the crappy Kenwood cd player I had. I have a 1200 watt Sony Xplod Amp with a Kicker Comp CVR 12" Subwoofer. The amp kit is the thick red and blue monster wire kit. When the amp was hooked up to the Kenwood it stopped working, it would turn on for a sec then shut off really quickly. I figured it was the old headunit, so I redid all the wiring when I installed the Boss Cd player and new fuses all around. But yet again it turns on and off quickly. I tried to resplice the REM wire to all available wires behind headunit and to no avail. I switched the ground to a different area and yet still nothing. I think the amp might have just shorted out, but I wanted to see if anyone had any final thoughts before I buy a new amp.

ok first is it turning off or locking into protect turning off means the amp is more than likely good protect means either or mostly if its in protect it just got too hot or the possibilty its done too. second thing what gauge wire are you running and is the recommended size wire if its bigger than whats recomended thats fine but smaller thats no good alot of amps will not work with small gauge wire than recomended i know rockford and memphis are that way not sure about sony though... third check fuses in the amp check the conection between the remote wire and amp and remote and head unit sometimes a loose conection can cause ALOT of issues. check your ground make sure its solid could have been knocked loosea. also check the connection on your power wire to your battery terminal and to the amp make sure both are tight and the no way its grounding to anything. oh also check to see if your sub leads are touching i have had instences where the sub leads were lose (not the terminals the leads going from the voil coil to the terminals on the basket) and hitting each other or making contact and actually kicking the amp off or into protect i swapped three amps one day because i thought it was an amp problem then finally pull the sub and found what i just described good luck.
