Sorry in advance if this question has been asked a million times. This question is for all of you that have a 93-95 Civic EX coupe w/option package that added passenger airbag and factory AR sound system w/components installed in the doors. My question is what size rear speakers are supposed to go on the rear deck? I bought mine used and somebody put some crappy 6 1/2's back there and they're too small. I measured the cutout and the diameter is 5 3/4's which is too big for 6 1/2's. What's the deal? Will 6 3/4's work back there? Thanks.

Weird. I thought the coupe and sedan would have the same speakers. Polk GXR6's (6 1/2) fit right in. I even reused the factory mounting screws.

Beelze, Does yours have a thick black plastic ring that the speakers screw into?

Oh yeah, I did have to hacksaw the backs of the black plastic piece in the doors to fit the larger magnet but the back deck didn't have anything but the factory Pioneers.

So Honda did use Pioneers for the factory speakers. That's what was in there. However like I said they were too small. When I took the speakers out 2 screws were securely attached to the black ring but 3rd one wasn't....it was just floating in the air because the mounting ring on the speaker itself was too small(yes they are 6 1/2's I double checked and they fit in the front holes just fine). Beelze, you do have 6 1/2's up front right? Hopefully because them seem to fit just fine.

yah 6 1/2"s all around. I just got done with mine. 6 1/2" Pioneer 3 way 240 watt in doors, 6"x9" Pioneer 3 way 330 watts in rear deck. the 6"x 9"s can fit...but you gotta do some custom work.

you measured the interior diameter, speakers are measured from the outside of the metal basket. 92-95 coupes are 6 1/2 all around. if you have subs, 6x9s are redundant.

6x9's in a civic hb

I have a '92 civic hatch and I just ripped the whole rear interior out-plastic panels, seats, and all. I had some 2-way rockford fosgate 6x9's in the rear that I temporarily zip-tied in by cutting the factory speaker brackets in half and those things sounded awesome. The only thing I didn't like was that the speakers swung a few cm's when I would take corners or go over speed bumps. Since I now have the plastic stuff out of the rear, I have much easier access to the speakers mounting locations, and I can see what space limitations I have to work with. I began makin my custom brackets today just using sheet metal and metal rods to give the brackets more strength. I also flipped the vertical bar that the speaker bracket mounts to-which gives me about 2-3 more inches to work with. I can't wait to finish these things. maybe some pics here in a few days.....

I just bought some 6.5" audiobahn's for my front.. they dont fit... even if i take out the plastic s**t, the holes dont line up.. but i think they'll fit in the back, but i WANT THEM IN THE FRONT!!! lol.. shits like 300w rms per speaker.. big magnets are hard to fit them.. maybe i'll just cut out the back of the plastic and redrill holes (probably wont even fit then).. 51/4 in the front, 6.5 in the rear... i have 94 ex coupe..

I wanted 6.5's but the boston pros are too deep, went 5.25 separates up front and 6.5's out back. These EX's came with 5.25 up front and in back, but 6.5's fit easy in the rear and with some mod in the doors too, if your magnet isnt too big. with a alpine head unit, 2 extant amps and a boston sub, the 5.25's actually sound bettter than the 6.5's !!!

Wow, the sedan's doors look smaller. I thought it would have had the smaller speakers. I did have to cut out the back of the black plastic mounting plate for the Polks but they clear the window just fine. The factory mounting locations and screws were used throughout. Just Dynomatted the rear deck and mounted the rears.

Well I don't know why my car is such as oddball but it's 6 1/2 components up front and 6 3/4's in the rear, 6 1/2's are just a touch small in the rear. Doesn't matter, I guess I'd rather have 6 3/4's anyway.

Yea, coupes are 5.25 in front and back... I had to mod the rear deck to fit my 6.5's in there, but they went in eventually.. i tried to take out the black plastic piece in the doors to put 6.5's in there, but they're still too big for the plastic piece, and if i take the plastic completely off, the window hits the magnets of the speaker when rolled down.. i have the AR package also.. just remember.. 5.25 front, 5.25 rear, unless you modify rear deck for larger.. but you will never get deep 6.5's to fit the doors ..

just cut the holes in the rear and put some 6x9's they sound pretty good and put out good bass since it uses the trunk as a box.

That is so weird...It's gotta' have something to do with the length of the window or something. I'm pretty sure Coupes have longer doors to facilitate rear access. Other than that though the doors look identical. I wonder why they would fit in the sedan but not the coupe?
