I have a stock d16y8 motor, how much hp could my engine handle if i just rebuilt the block? I am planning on turboing it and to rebuild the whole engine would be around $1800-1900!

& also, i understand i need new injectors, fuel pump, etc. so no need to tell me something i already know.

thanks

depends on how you build the block and how good your tune is...

what internals do you plan on running?

need more info then that..gotta know the specs of each part you buy such as compression ratio
vitara is a good d-series part maker

depending on your real budget you might not even be able to max out the power of the fully built d-series like bisimoto did =)

we've actually found the max power out of a singlecam. There is a point where the casting of the motor wont hold the power, and it will split the block horizontally.

save yourself $300 and do the vitara/eagle rod combo that SpeedFactory offers.

LMAO... was it close to 1000hp?

and 2fast, i say go vitara/ eagle combo and have it tuned nicely... much more go for the dollar that way.

it was in the 700 range. block cracked and motor died @ 1000' mark and it still ran a 9.89. Previous best pass was a 9.65 which is a world record for a D series turbo street car

oh yea, and this was on Eagle H beam rods and 75.5mm Vitara pistons

with the correct turbo set up, 350ish. That is more than enough power on the street

yes it does. piston to cylinder wall clearance must be within a certain spec. if you put a 75mm piston in a motor with a 75.5mm bore you will hear a knock like none other. you can use over size rings but i woulndt

well, i know you can't put bigger pistons in a smaller cylinder. but which would be better for my setup? im lookin to get about 300-350 hp.

the extra .5mm is so you dont get piston slap... vitaras dont expand like the OEM pistons, so the standard 75mm bore ones can tend to be loud before they fully heat up... besides, that .5mm actually adds a bit of torque too.

is it expensive to bore out the cylinders?
usually not. any engine builder can quote you a price a bore/ hone job.
if you aftermarket rods (eagle h beams ect..) you will also need the block notched for the thicker rods as well, which is usually pretty cheap too.
