My winter car(1993 pontiac grand am gt 5 speed 4 cyl high output) is currently up and running after a year of sitting in the garage. Last january, after months of extremely hard driving, I managed to bend all the exhaust valves, luckily i didn't crack any pistons. After further review (pulling apart the head), we noticed that the cam gears had jumped teeth. Oh wow, low and behold the dumbass at the mechanic shop hadn't put the chain back on all the way, nice one dumbass . Anyways, we ordered new valves and everything, and started putting it back together last weekend. It was a b***h, pontiacs are extremely hard to work on, bc of the limited space in the engine bay. So tonight, we did a compression test, the cylinders are all pretty much even, so we cranked it a bit to let the oil pump up, and then finally i turned it over, after a year of sitting i finally got my baby goin. Oil pressure is steady between 40 and 60 psi, its idling at 1 grand, water temp is good, but the lifters are extremely loud, they are new so i guess i should expect that until they break in? After a while they finally settled a bit, but we still need to let some of the excess gas burn off from cranking it, and some of the lube from the new lifters, valves. Now all thats left is replacing a brake cylinder on the right rear, which is a b***h , and then thursday will be its maiden voyage. Lemme tell you, its faster than you think, im pretty sure it would smoke my si . Just wanted to let you guys know that! peace
