Reliability/Longevity

Ok, so tonight at work I began to think about my set up and the long term effects of my engine. Thinking about what I should really do with it.

1. This car is my daily driver, however I do have a second car.
2. This car stands out like a damn thumb.
3. This car has tons of time and money into it.
4. I want to own 3/4 of the B's on the streets
5. Car has new timing belt/water pump/oil pump/all bearings/all gaskets.
6. Will not be sleeved or posted.

Looking at the RELIABILITY issues as well as the LONGEVITY issues. Now I do realize that a D can be picked up extremely cheap, however who wants to build something to rebuild that samething in a couple of months or even a year. I am a mekanik but damn I do that all night long at work I really dont want to do it when I get home everyday, ya know.

My set up:

D16Y8
F-Max Turbo Kit---4 stock injectors/2- 650cfm lucas injectors
Spearco front mount intercooler
MSD-SCI Ignition
MSD Blaster coil/cap
Turbo XS 2 stage boost controller
Nology plug wires
Revolution cat-back exhaust
DC intake
Clutchmasters Stage 3
Apexi V-AFC---minor quick tuning

I had the car dynoed a while back with all of the above add=ons, @ 6psi boost I hit 146whp and @ 12psi I hit 197whp.

===============================================

2004 winter build up

Blockgaurd
Clutchmasters flywheel
AEM EMS------plug n play for those of you who dont know what that is.
AEM pulleys------didnt go with the URs
Exospeed head----3 way/cam grind-turbo/port-polish/valve seals
Full Btm end---JE pistons/Eagle rods/ARP bolts/all other crap
Walbro fuel pump

I run 6 psi normally and a GUESSED figure on HP is about 210whp when completed @ 6psi. When I flip the little switch it reaches 12 psi, GUESSED figure for that would be around 250whp @ 12psi.

Anyway, I'm looking for advice here from all of you, I will be running 6psi on a normal basis and when some ex-commey bastard wants to f**k with me I can switch to the 12.

Will this all work out for me in the end or am I going to f*ck myself over and might as well pick up a new motor soon??? Regardless my gear is already bought.............

Thanks for all the advice/help whatever it is.

From what I gather, and from what others have told me, sleeving the block will help with both reliability and longevity. Building up the engine with bullet-proof parts is a step in the right direction if your boosting it, but unless you plan on more boost than what you're running now, you'll never beat a mildly built B, except in some instances. And if you go w/ more boost, you WILL need the block to be sleeved in order to handle it.

Right now I'm runnin all motor on my D16Z6 and it can hold it's own so far but I'm still planning a swap. I feel there's only so much your gonna get out of a D, even with boost, simply beacuse of the lack of adjustability w/ the cam. But that's just my opinion.

I know ppl with 400whp on a D. Just a dumb ass question that I need to figure out. If I was gonna go with a B, I would set an H in there f*ck the played out B.

I actually have more than 10 B's hanging out in my lunchbox already, its getting kinda full.

Yeah I remember back in the day if you had a b series under your hood you got the oooohhhh and aaahhss. Now these these days peeps are turning to other motors, i.e. H22 and even K20.

It is possible to get 400 HP out of a D, but I've heard of some ppl crankin out almost 1000HP out of a B.

mee too, just stating that a D can have power. not a b hater so dont take it that way
Idon't think that you're a B hater, I'm just sayin that they have alot more tuning potential than a D. Still, D's do have alot of untapped tuning potential, at least, a lot more than most people give them credit for.
