I made a thread about this before ( cannot find it ) pretty sure it was on this forum.. but I cannot for the life of me find it.

I have a remote start I need to program... question is how?

I know its like hit button two
Pull e-break
turn offf the car but it stays running
Take the key out of ignition ( car still running )
Open close the door lock it
Turn car off with remote....

Or something like that.. but I cannot figure it out, anyone have any ideas or know how its done?

not illegal, just alot of shops wont take the risk if you "accidentaly" leave it in gear, my buddy has one on his accord, and i may have him put one in the EM1

its not illegal for all alarms to have remote start on a standard. compustar to name one is legal and is design for standard cars. i love my remote start.. even though its illegal i had it for 4 years and not a single problem.

In Canada where I am its probably closer to illegal if you DO NOT have one ;) Ummm... to be honest it came with the car.. umm.. oh yea, its called Pro Start, its a remote with Lock/Unlock and Start/Shutoff buttons. I had it programed last year then undid it in the summer... now I cannot remember all the steps to it.

why would it be illegal?

its illegal because if u leave it in gear it will drive off.. the car will not shut off because the alarm is set to idle at a certain rpm and it will not let the car die out. even if the ebrake is up it will keep its rpm up and the car will pell out or move foward.

fun thing about it.. i took my car out in a open street and put my car in gear and took off my ebrake and use my remote start.. i did a foot race with my car..

if you leave your car in gear and say your parked facing a wall or object like 3 feet away and someones sitting on your hood and you remote start it, it could jump and smash there legs or cause some serious injuries. the injured party could press charges for like assault or something. im just guessing here (i still have it installed on mines so nobody sit on my hood =))

thats a good point, but why would some of them be illegal and some not? im guessing security measures in the computer to prevent it from rolling away?

No it is not illegal for a remote start to be on a manual transmission. There are many brands of remote starts that are built specifically for manuals. The safety protocol programmed in these remote starts is very strict.
Basically, its impossible to start the car in gear.

What is illegal is taking a automatic transmission auto start and making it work on a standard. By doing that all the protocol is stripped and the car can be started in gear.

What I'd like to know is how it is going to detect if it's in gear or not?? The car doesn't seem to have any sort of method that electronically monitors it.. mechanically I would guess...

good point. can the alarm or any electronic device on the vehicle tell if a manual transmission is in gear upon start up?

probably something in the ECU or something that senses your gear positioning

On a manual transmission you have to go through several steps to get it to autostart.
1. Stop the car. The brake wire is taped so the brain knows when you hit the brake.
2. Put the car in neutral. Now there is no way to monitor this, so the brain relys on signals from the other steps.
3. Pull the ebrake. Again this is a signaled tap going to the alarm brain.
4. Drop the e brake and engage yet again.
5. Auto run the car via the transmitters. This step for a normal autostart is for jumping out to get something when you are going to right back to the vehicle. It remains running until you get back. It can be used in the same way for the manual but it is also for restarting the car.
6. Step out of the car, close the door and arm the alarm. See by this time if you have run through all the steps either
A. You are a complete f**king moron and you have just left a manual transmission vehicle in gear and exited said vehicle. Your car is now wrapped around your neighbors fat wife and there is no one to blame but your own retarded self or
B. Car shuts down knowing that there really isnt that many stupid people in the world and preps itself to be autostarted the next morning.

Now if you forgot your condoms in the car and entered it at 11pm so you can get it on with the above mentioned neighbors fat wife the system will not start in the morning. Why because it knows that the transmission could have been accidently knocked into gear.

That is how a manual autostart works!!!!
