i just went to get a 2 1/2" exhaust put on today and (freeakin OBDII!!!!!) there's a second 02 sensor stuck in the catalytic converter. I'm yanking the cat out (I live in canada where there is no emissions restriction hehe) and will have the shop weld a flange to hold the sensor into the straight pipe replacing the cat. I'm wondering if this will cause my check engine light to come on or any other adverse effects. I know there are 02 sensor hacks and am curious if anyone has done this.

it will make your check engine light come on... but i have heard... im not saying to try it but i have heard that if you put some rubbing alchol in your gas that it will go back off... again i am not saying to try this because i don't know what it will do to the engine, but a guy told me he does it and it works.

There's a device out there that you can wire in that replaces the o2 sensor and fools the car into thinking its getting a normal reading. You of course want to only do this to one of the o2 sensors. I don't remember what its called either, so I don't know what help I actually am giving you. lol

Get an O2 simulator like loccusst suggested.

Hey I have recently done my exhaust on my 98 civic. I put on the Tanabe Racing and I had the same problem with the o2 sensors. I dont have a cat on mine so I just had a shop weld in a second sensor and the check engine light came back on within the day I got it back. It just blows out that sensor and you have to deal with the light being on unless you switch over the OBD.

why not leave the cat on.. you lose almost zero hp by leaving it on, and you dont have to worry about cel's or your back bumper getting sooty or your car smelling like ass. leave it on.

02 probs

or just get the obd2 to obd1 conversion harness and a different ecu will take care of the problem.
