Removing gray interior dash panel

Has anybody removed the gray(or brown or whatever color your interior is)dash panel that surrounds the radio, HVAC controls, goes all the way over the steering column and covers the power mirror controls, etc. How hard or easy is this? Does it just snap on or is it held in place with screws? I tried just popping it off w/a screwdriver today and had no luck, it seemed quite solid and I didn't want to break anything. I need to remove it in order to install a custom mounting bracket for my XM Skyfi. Please help.

Thanks. How many are there and how hard are they to get at?

... never tried to take them off, I only knew there were screw there cause I pull the ugly ass dash and put a GSR and I saw screws to take them off hard to reach I would say.
Maybe certain screw drivers.

Hey, I'm taking off my dash too so I got the manual. There are 6 screws to take out. Two behind the access panels on the side of the dash. One behind the upper air vent. One in back of the center console, one in back of the lower dashboard cover and one behind the glove. It says to also take off the ground wire that seems to be somewhere above the steering column, near the face of the dash (haven't done it yet). I was looking into the passenger airbag before removing the dash, I haven't read if that panel on the top of it needs to be taken out first. Well good luck.

whoops, I misread your first message. There are 8 screws holding it in place. 2 of which are directly behind part of the dash's metal frame that I can't get to with the tools that I have. I am just going to unscrew it when I take out the dash. Sorry about the mix up.

Thanks for the help. What manual are you using? I bought a Haynes manual and it doesn't show how to do this. I also talked to some techs at the Honda dealer and they said this is a b1tch to do. Let me know what manual you are using so I can go get one. I can't believe they need 8 screws to hold that d@mn thing on. Hell I might just break some of them off when taking it off, it doesn't need 8 frickin' screws.

I got the honda repair manual off ebay. You can get the CD for only a few bucks on CD. I warn you there are a lot of pages! Very detailed as far as diagrams but it seems to be lacking information on the passenger side airbag removal (the one and only part they do not cover in sickening detail) so I'm a little stuck now as far as taking off the dash. If you are as far along as I think you are you are pretty close to taking off the dash yourself (only 6 screws) and removing the panel correctly. Well I hope this helps.

I haven't even started yet but I did take out the lower console and radio once already and put it back together. I also popped off the moonroof/dimmer/cruise switch, power mirror switch and rear defroster switch when I got home from work today just to take a peek inside. The Honda techs were right unfortunately(imagine that). That thing is screwed in from behind the dash. B@stards. However, I think I would be able to get at the screws if I take off the instrument cluster bezel. I also have a very handy, small ratcheting screwdriver that could be the key as to whether or not I will be able to this. Would it be possible for you to email me those pages from that manual? Thanks.

Sorry, the manual exists in one large 88.2 MB .pdf file. Since I have the free version of acrobat I cannot copy individual pages. Just check out ebay, for a few bucks having the whole manual is well worth it.

I had the same problem. My stereo was stolen a long time ago so the right edge extending from the A/C all the way down to where the stereo was and a little to the left was broken off. Fortunately I had the broken off piece in the car and I ended up having it industrial glued back in. It looks cheesy but it holds a radio now. I wouldn't have it any other way since...

1) The dealership sells that little piece of plastic for $190...
2) Installing it is a REAL b***h. You have to remove the entire dash. You have to recalibrate your speedometer, so I'm told. It takes anywhere between 2-6 hours.

I decided just to glue it back in because I'd rather have a marred interior than to spend hundreds of dollars on such a trivial thing.

I had a broken 1...and just got a replacement and broke the old focker off! Then put 3m double sided tape on the back of it.Holds pretty damn strong. Just isnt worth taking the whole damn dash out just to remove those fawking screws for that trim piece!
