im going this friday to a garage who are (well most likely to) going to do an engine swap for me. They will be dropping a GSR in my hatch. They will be getting the engine direct from Japan (they are also jap car importers) and will be sorting the brakes and suspension out.

What I need you guys to help me with:

1)What is a good brake and suspension setupfor this swap?

2) Is there anything I should be aware of or beware of?

3) Are there certain things they should provide as part of the service:
e.g. dyno the car, run the car a few hundred miles to make sure engine aint gonna f**k up on me

4) They say they would rather get the engine themselves than me import it from a US company, because they seek low mileage (20 - 30,000) engines and can check everything out in japan before they buy it............does that sound like a scam?

Any help much appreciated. Its just i dont want to pay and a few weeks later the engine clonks out!

As far as i know the company is very reputable and has done many swaps before.

1. A good choice when dealing with brakes is to do a rear disc conversion from an Integra or SI if you havent done so already. As far as aftermarket parts, a set of Power Slot rotors and AEM brake pads would do just fine.

2. The company doing the swap can probably answer this question for you.

3. If they are doing a motor swap, they will more than likely warranty the motor for so many miles and also warranty their work. They are not required to dyno the car or anything like that.

4. This does not sound like a scam. It is true that JDM motors have less mileage on them because of their strict emissions regulation there. Most JDM motors have anywhere between 25000 - 35000 miles on them.

Hope this helps you out... congrats on the swap and good luck.

For the suspension, everyone seems to like Skunk2 coils on Tokico blues...

Suspension = Tein SS
Brakes = NSX/Acura Legend

Yeah make sure you're getting quality parts :lol:. Make sure that they are going to provide a warranty on the motor that they buy and the work. Hell if they're picking out the motor for you, it damn well better run for a good 60,000 more miles.

Major tune-up/compression test, contract and warranty.

so does doing suspension right. a set of $90 ebay special coils aint gonna cut it if you want your car to handle. it costs money to do any mod right. speed costs money, how fast do you want to go. and ive said it once and ill say it again- however much you "save" by cheaping out the first time, it ALWAYS costs more to take it apart and do it right the second time than it does to just do it right the first time.

I hear ya, and sorry for thread jacking, but, I just ordered Tein basics off of www.robearracing.com for $160 shipped. In my estimation, that's pretty cheap and I can get Tokico blues for $229. So would that mean I'm cheaping out because I'm getting a good deal? I understand where you're coming from. I was just merely stating that Tein SS's would be expensive and after all the work he's planning on doing, to the typical tuner, money would be tight...

Im sure they want to supply the motor because I bet they make a bit of profit on that. Not that I blame them, I mean, they are a bussiness, lol. Could you get a motor that is checked out for a lot cheaper?

no, he's saying to get them to test the compression on the engine and make sure they give you a warranty
