question for those of you that are knowledgable on the subject. i live in the desert and see temperatures of 120* consistantly starting from june to the end of september. what do you guys recommend for keeping my engine cool? keep in mind that my A/C has not been taken out, nor will it be. i know ryan already answered this in a different thread, but i want to see what other people say.

what would you guys recommend?

I would say lift the back of the hood, get some Redline waterwetter, and don't drive like a maniac.

a magazine did a temp. test of the "jdm tilt" and it showed no change/less heat efficient. living in the same hell hole as you and knowing that my car overheats just sitting in traffic sometimes, im going to see if i cant get a bigger radiator to lower my water temp. if that doesnt work you can always go the heater route. ;)

Mine is slightly tilted and I have noticed that my motor doesn't stay hot as long after I turn it off.

hardwire the radiator fan to a switch so u can keep it turned on all of the time. header wrap around the exhaust can help keep the underhood temps down.

you could get a hood with some vents cut in, EVO/invader style or such, upgrade you Rad to something full Aluminum, oil and/or tranny cooler...

That might be, nut that doesn't have to affect how the temperature is affected when it's running and the car is moving.

I was saying if it cools down quicker then heat is escaping.

this is why the tilt hood doesnt affect anything on a moving car.

the opening at the end acts like its closed because of the moving air above the hood's opening... hopefully you can make sense of the drawing. its aerodynamics

but ill be sure to check out aluminum radiators

hmm... So where does all the air that gets past my intercooler and throught the small grill go?

hmm... Maybe its sucked out the vent. Why would it go around in a circle when it is a vent almost directly in line?:

heatwrap everything, lol. the more hot air you can keep out of the bay, the better your chances are that it wont heat up.
thick aluminum rad, making sure that it cant suck hot air around and back through the rad while sitting still.
good radiator fan/s
gut your thermostat. dont completely remove it because then the water will move too fast through the rad to cool down. but cut teh center out so that it flows more water, yet slows it down at the same time(vs no thermo)
try Redline Water Wetter. ive heard it works, but have no personal experience to back it up

if u dont wanna wire ur fan up to run all the time u can get a mugen or spoon thermostat that turns the fan on at a lower temp.

as long as ur car is moving overheating shouldn't be a problem.

Oh and one more thing. Moving air acts as a vacuum... Physics.

the ground is open, i shouldnt have closed it off in the pic. heat rises so if its escaping from the bottom it is inefficient. and i have no idea what vent youre talking about... if youre talking about the one thats right below the windshield, then that vent doesnt flow fast enough to move the heat out of the engine bay. unless you have youre heater on.

Look man, I'm not trying to argue with you. I know what aerodynamics is and how it works. I'm just saying that I tried it and it has worked for me, and the vent I'm talking about is the gap.

I think of it like this roll one window down in your car slightly, go down the road 45mph or so and feel how the wind is drawn into the car. Now go down the road again but this time with the opposite window cracked slightly too. You will feel a larger draft now.

thats not how the air flows over the car. the only true ram air systems have the openings by the front of the hood, near the grill. because the air flows over the back of the hood

isnt there a swirl of air right in front of the windshield spinning down? maybe not with this type of front end but i thought thats how the cowl induction idea worked, the air would spin down and forward into the cowl. i have been wrong before tho

I don't see one. but then again, the fog/smoke might not be low enough on these cars to see that even.

And another Honda too... With a front end more like Civics.
