Rim shopping

I currently own & drive a '98 Civic EJ6(1998 Honda Civic DX). It is all stock, not lowered. i'm starting to look for rims to buy since the season is coming up within the next few months. I'm really into the 15 inch XXR 531's and i've read online a little bit and im usually getting the same answer; +30 offset is required to fit nicely.I want to know if +20 offset would fit. I'm not sure as i'm only learning so i've come here to try and get a good answer. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks.

Please provide details about you refer to in your posts. Not all members remember every acronym, brand or model of everything.

Is your coupe lowered? If so, how low and using what brand of equipment? I ask because my brief search shows those rims as come in multiple sizes, of which you did not specify. I also see they start at an 8" width which would be a tight fit on these Civic unless you have a very small drop or none at all. Youd probably still rub at some point anyway.

not lowered. stock suspension. I see the 2000 Honda Civic coupes with the XXR 531's on and i've always wondered how they're able to fit nicely.

offset is the placement of the rim barrel higher offset number means the rim barrel sits closer in( less outer lip) and wheels with low offset number have the rim barrel moved outward( less inner rim barrel, more outer lip). in simple terms low offset wheels with stick out past the fender while high offset wheel sits more inside the fender you can get any wheels in any spec, its all up to you on how you want it to look

Hey Diana,
So if I decide to get the XXR Platinum 531's with +20 offset, with the right tire dimensions, I shouldn't have to be concerned about any rubbing?

yes, for 15s i would suggest going with tire sizes no bigger then 195 55 15s or 205 45 16s any bigger then those you'll have good chance of rubbing those are our factory tire sizes

I'd actually suggest a different route. I'm a firm believer in lowering a car before buying new wheels. Why you might ask? So it looks properly fitted. Older generation Hondas like our EKs have a huge stock wheel gap that needs to be closed down quite a bit for it to actually look good.
Use willtheyfit.com to figure out how far they will stick out. If you get lower offset (like 0 on a x8 width wheel) you NEED to get stretched tires such as 165/50s. if you are going for a +20 offset on a x8 width wheel, you probably would be able to get away with 195/45. Here's a picture of it on the website I recommended ya: (Yellow is 15x8 +0 w 165/50 and green is 15x8 +20 w 195/45

you forgot one thing doing all these tire stretching with a lot of stretching with thinner tires not ideal for racing... sidewall flexing is real...it also throws off your speedo accuracy being that factory speedo is about +/- 1-3 mph off smaller tire size will throw it off a lot more.its alright if you just plan on just cursing around town and not race the car or just drive around town slow. i how have a super small tiny baby stretch. with 195 45 15 on a 15x7 rim.

When my speedo says 70 I'm actually going 50... speedo issues are a thing but doesn't really bother me. And I've also heard of stretched tires as not being the best for racing.. but then why do drift cars have them? I've heard (and done myself) to just keep the air pressure up (to 40-50psi or more depending if the stretch is extreme or not).

drift cars don't have that uch and drifting is totally different cause they're just shredding tires in a "controlled" sliding they can even run on donuts if they wanted to,all drift car does is slide out the read end yea 50psi its alot for any tires especially if your really streching thos tires my friend had 195 45 15 stretched the f**k out on his kuger 15x9 wheels he wnet with abit wider tires cause it wasn't all that great especially here in NY..

smaller wheel has to spin faster to cover the same amount of distance as the larger wheel turning much slower speed but able to cover the sme distance much quicker

195/45 on a x9 is actually kinda mild. Extreme would be 165/50 on a x9. Seen it done, looks unsafe/dope at the same time lol.
