Rust Hole Problems

Okay, kind of an odd question, but you know where the trunk air vent is located? Well the previous owner, took it out an welded a metal plate over it, crappy welds, an didn't paint over it, so its rusted an all around it, i cut it out, so now theres a hole a little bit bigger than the hole thats in there from the factory for the vent. Is there any support issues or anything I should worry about having that hole? I mean im going to either make something bigger out of plastic or rubber to seal the hole etc.

I dont think it will alter the structure of your car, it shouldnt be a crush point. I would also grind off the old rusty areas and at least prime it, as you probly already plan on doing. Lordfusor metal adhesive is a great product if you lan on throwing in a patch over it. The stuff is like welding but none of the welding problems such as warpage.
