There is this guy who wants to sell me an si with a salvage title. He said it was theft recovery and gave me the carfax to prove it. The car is in chicago should I get it? and what is the process to get the title to my name and all that good stuff? and how long will it take and how much? please give me some advice thanks!!! Also is there such thing that if a car when acquired had a salvage title but got inspected some how and will be given a clear title at a later time?

what was taken out of the car when it was stolen? the process to change the title in your name is easy, there is a paper in the DMV that helps you. plus you have to get the pink slip signed by the owner and yourself. my car had a salvage title from theft recovery when i bought it, but the only thing stolen were the rims. anyway i love my si.

The problem is not with getting it inspected.... inspectors will attempt to certify anything, as long as you have insurance on it.... but that's where the problem comes into play. Most insurance companies will not insure any car that has a salvage title. I'm not exactly sure how they'd treat 'theft recovery' but make sure to call your insurance company before you do anything.

I got the si for 7500 but yeah so I should check my insurance company first?!? ok... well from what the seller told me they strip the whole car except when it got to the engine and tranny... They didnt have time to do it cause they got caught in the process so he told me...... but he has all factory parts back into it...I just dont know plus I still have to go to Chicago to get the car...... I dont know if its worth it.. and yeah I might consider selling it later but for now just a daily... Here is the link for the car... http://forums.clubsi.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=forsalecarsonly&Number=4389981&Forum=All_Forums&Words=30867&Match=Username&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=allposts&Main=4366246&Search=true#Post4389981

Shiznit: well he told me that the only thing we need to do is just sign the title together thats all. Is that not true?

that is true. but the paper that im talking about makes things easy. go to your DMV and ask for it if you decide you want the car. also if you get the car, make sure the both of you come up with some kind of contract explaining the deal. have witnesses when your writing it up. could i see the carfax report?

the rims were stolen and it got a salvage title on it? Well I called the tax office here and they told me its going to cost me about 500 bux to move everything over and to change the title from a salvage to a rebuilt title... it will never be a clear title.... 500 bux?? wow!!!! you know.. I had no idea it takes so much to get a car with a salvage title on it. Is it worth it stil you think? I mean dang... tax office told me that after inspection they wil give me this paper so i can take it to the tax office....

i got it in cali. it was easy to get my car. i went to the previous owners house, gave him a check, wrote up a contract, filled out a little paper work, signed the title, went to the DMV and turned in all paper work to transfer the title to my name. then i went to my insurance company and they told me that they would not fully cover it because of the salvage title. but other than the insurance company the whole transaction was smooth and fast. i don tknow about the process in texas. ive never heard of a tax office and the DMV never brought it up. have you test driven the car? when/if you do, check everything. check for rust, leaks, im not sure if you VIN numbers are going to match since the car was stripped of everything but you should check anyway. when your test driving it, gun the motor make sure you dont hear any weird noises and that VTEC works. i was kinda reluctant to buy my Si at first but im happy i did. anyway gl to you

7500 is an unbeatable price if you find that everything is perfect on the car.
