Ok I know this is a Civic website but listen up, ok. Yesterday night i was browsin' the net and came a cross a website similiar to CC only it was for Saturns. Don't know the name but I didn't know that their was a website for trash. They were talkin about s**t like there 1.9 litre DOHC's is the best motor and s**t like that. Anyway they were bashing on Hondas especially the Si and the Prelude. One guy even went as far as to say that he beat a Prelude w/ I/H/E in his SL1. Another one was talking about how he beat a Si in his SC2. I call BS, I don't know much about Saturns, but what I do know is that they never ever have made a fast Saturn eexcept for the New Ion (Redline). If you have ever taken a look at these guys engines they have a lot more displacement than some of the Honda engines but they makes s**t for horsepower, They need all 1.9 litres to make 130 hp where as the 1.6 litre SOHC VTEC makes that much with less displacement. It's amazing what happens when domestics try to get in to the import scene. They should just leave it to Honda, Acura, Nissan, Toyota, Mitsubishi, and Mazda.

Saturn is trying really hard to get into the import scene because that is all the rave right now.....What year prelude are you talking about..if it was like a mid 90s prelude vs a Brand new Saturn SL1, then yes, maybe the Saturn would win..but if it was a new Prelude with I/H/E, there is no way the saturn would win unless the Prelude driver sucked at driving...there are a lot of variables that could go into this...if the cars were modded the same way, and the drivers we the same ability and both cars were new, I would give the win to the Prelude..but we need more details on like the year of the car, crivers ability, etc.....and by the way, this should have been posted in the Lounge...

well in all fairness, saturn did just beat out honda as the fastest sport compact on earth. they beat the previous record of 183mph set by john thawley driving the progress/vortech honda civic si back in 01, with their run of an average 212.684mph... that's almost 30mph faster than the old record. it was in a modified saturn ION redline. it is all outlined in the march 04 issue of SPORT COMPACT CAR. under the title "200-mph saturn, inside the fastest sport compact on earth"

i'll have to find the website again and copy and paste for you guys but he did mention it being the boxy style, so i'm guessin it was the 96-up, you never hear about having a 400hp saturn, Toyota's Nisan's and some Honda's can easily get that, I've crushed Saturns and I have a SOHC VTEC, obviously I'm not running it stock but that V6 sedan is a joke too, I beat that by a car length. I'd expect a lil' more outta a V6

I personally wouldnt buy a saturn, because they dont last nearly as long as say a honda or acura. Also preformance wise it doesnt compare to the cusomization possibilities of a honda. However the Saturn Ion Redline is one fast car, but not too good looking.

yeah my friend has a saturn SL2 sedan, that site is called "ExtremeSaturn". I don't know what's so "Extreme" about it because I think all the saturn cars look ugly and have poor GM mechanics under the hood. But all i know is if you put the right driver behind the wheel of an SC2 or SL2, they can just about out match a civic ex stock because my friend and I go at it all the time.

the saturn that now holds the world record has 1100hp out of a 2.0l... that's pretty impressive to me, not to mention that it's the current world record holder by nearly 30mph over honda... but i very much dislike the design and pricing of saturns and unless they flipped a 180 in their entire thought process... i'd never buy one.

but again, the aftermarket for saturn is almost up there with honda. there are many companies that do nothing but saturn, and they do produce some impressive numbers.

that and most mitsu designs are in a large part a daimler-chrysler... i'd say that the imports are actually falling behind in the import scene. they make reliable econoboxes, but they are severly falling behind in the performance part of the sport compact market.

I second the BS call...:bs: :bs: When my wife and I first started dating she had a top of the line Saturn SC2 (third door, hatch, "sports coupe" with DOHC) and my old 3rd gen Prelude B21A1 would s**t-hammer that car. The SL1 is a SOHC with 4 doors and a lot less power.

Not Honda. German company called Opel. Owned by GM. Transmissions made by Swedish company TAT.

dont count saturns out when racing, when fix up right, they can be fast. check out lisa kubo, she went from a 9 second b16 hatch and moved to a 7 or 8 seconded saturn.

I hate to say this being the Hondfa fiend that I am, but I've put my moms L600 I think it's called up against some nice Hondas and it tore them up. The worst part is it's an automatic. Most noteably it destroyed a b16 hatch wi i/h/e.

wrong. ford doenst "own" them totally. they are a huge investor and s**t. ford has been doing this for years. back to the early 90's ford escort, it has a MAZDA miata motor. same with the ford probes of 90ish+, its a mazda mx6 motor...it should even say mazda somehwere on the motor or in the book.
