What are you trying to avoid? Stolen car or stuff being stolen from the inside. Not to be a downer but normally installed alarms are a bit of false security. You need to find a very good installer (preferablly an MECP MASTER TECH) and pay him good money to install an alarm in a way that will make it of any value. A decent alarm by a good company such as DEI will be where to start. DEI is the company that makes VIPER, SIDEWINDER, PYTHON and many others. A master installer (if you can find one) will be able to guide you in what to get for what you want. You can get into things such as extra sirens inside the car which are very loud to thieves inside the car and hard to get to to disable. Backup battery so if they disconnect the car battery it keeps going off. Motion sensor so it chirps before they even touch your car. Going the extra mile is where it's going to count. By this I mean have the installer put the alarm somwhere else besides under the drivers dash where most thieves know it is at for quick disabling. Also doing something besides the typical starter kill like a relay for a fuel cut. There are so many options that can be done but it will be hard to find someone who is capabale and willing to do it all and the price will be steep for that kind of labor, but if you want better security that is what you have to do. I give you all this info because if you go into a shop and just ask for an alarm you will get the basic run of the mill install as it is an in and out business where most installers want to get it done quick and they don't expect the customer to want to pay that kind of money and wait the amount of time it would take to get it done. I can say that I have never had a customer in my 10yr. career that wanted to pay for something like this but when I put them in my car that is how I do it.
