Anyone know if the club is actually a decent theft deterrent for its price? I was thinking of getting one but everyone on here seems to have at least one friend that’s had there car jacked. Anyone with opinions or advice? I already have an alarm but I was told that doesn’t really stop much!

thanks

IMO the club is worthless... its only a deterent at most... its probably the easiest security device to remove, after all it is attached to one of the weakest parts of the car. The steering wheel is made of a thin wall hollow metal tube surrounded by foam.. and is designed to bend and colapse in the event of a crash, a simple snip & twist and the club is removed, and now the theif has a car with a oddly shaped wheel.. which can easily be replaced.. Either way, your car is still gone.

Cliff notes: Club = Worthless (IMO)

Things like the clutch/brake lock bars are decent, but still defeatable. Alarms are amoung the best deterants... Kill Switches, ect protect the car from being driven away.

I have an alarm but I was talking with my friend who is a cop and he says in toronto civics like mine are getting stolen more and more... he suggested the club if anything and said alarms dont do much. I think I might go for the kill switch/fuel cut off! anyone know how much they cost to be installed? roughly?

Exactly, all you have to do is cut the steering wheel right by the club and slip it through the hole... it can be taken off in less than 5 seconds

Clubs won't stop anyone that knows what they are doing...

But a club, in conjunction with some kill switches, alarms, and brake/clutch locks can be just enough to either give you enough time to get out to your car, or deter the theft at all. If you are interested in security, get some other stuff besides a club.

kill switch is probably the most time consuming theft deterent to a thief...unless you've hidden in a poor spot and he nails it right away.

I've got to go around people's alarms all the time when they are equipped with remote starts. (if you are court ordered to have a breathalyzer, you cannot have a remote start) I can defeat the best alarms suprisingly quick. A thief would be even faster.

does that mean when it's taken off, you'll put the alarm back to the way it was, or is the person screwed?

 I leave the alarm and most of it's functions in place. I just defeat the remote start. I leave the wire capped in a way that I can find it and restore the function once they have their driving priviledges restored.

My point was that I can defeat any function on most alarms in seconds once I get under the dash.

i know that was your point, i was just asking. that would suck if they lost their remote start and had to pay an installer to hook it back up.

though if you're a dui dumbass, perhaps you deserve it. :P

i think any anti theft device will help but when it all comes down to it if they really want to steal your car they will. the down side to "the club" is you can take a hack saw to it and cut straight threw the steering wheel, those latches for your throttle dont work either because you kick the s**t out of them and they just fall apart. low jack is good too, any type of alarm, but then again think about it. if your alarm goes off in a mall parking lot people just think ohh its just another alarm going off. im trying to peice together a fuel kill switch thats the only real thing to stop them but even then if they have a truck they could tow it. so like i said before anything helps just depends how determend the theives are!!!

I agree completely.

another problem with the Lo-Jack is that while many are willing to pay for the unit and the service, no-one is willing to pay the installer to locate the unit in a place that's inaccessable. I open the trunk, there's the unit. If I'm a thief, I get rid of it. attach it to a city bus and drive the cops crazy looking for a Porsche or something that seems to always be around this bus.

Glorified version of one of those chip security systems from the '80s. It does make a mess of the wiring and it would take a bit to get around it but it is not as infallible as the makers would have you believe.

(Pager) Alarm + Detachable steering wheel (with steering wheel hub lock) + Kill switches + Baseball bat (in your hand) + (my little secret)

in other words. have multiple deterrents to stall the theif and have hium guessing for minutes/hours until you finally arrive as your pager alarm (reliably) informs you of a robbery.

I'm not suggesting anything else because thiefs browse forums. It's your job to be as creative as you can to make up the best security system
