Seeking audio install advice: problems during install, can't get deck out of dash

For a 96 coupe...

Today I was working on installing a sub and amp.. took the seats out, put everything under the carpet, all the wiring was installed properly and ready to go.

I took the bottom half of the dash and the glovebox off in order to get to the deck.

I cannot get that stupid deck out of the dash. It's seriously locked in there.

I was actually able to plug in the RCA cables by feel alone, but there is no space to get the remote wire in.

Very, very, very frustrating. Suggestions?

Aftermarket decks have locking tabs. Check to see if yours came with the keys. Should be some kind of pins or blades that you stick on both ends of the deck when the face is removed. What brand?

There should be four screws underneath. Basically where the cig lighter/power outlet was before you disconnected it. Unscrew those and pull the whole a/c controls, stereo, etc. out. It Should come straight out... ive done it many times

No keys came with the deck :( It's a Pioneer

I tried desperately to pull those four screws out by the AC. But, they've never been moved since 1996. They didn't want to budge, even with tons of elbow grease :(

Try to use a drill and work out the screws.. dont let those 12 year old screws put it on you. =)

Pull the trim ring off from around your head unit. Insert keys into the slots on either side of the radio all the way. Put pressure on them and pull a little and you should be able to pull the radio out. You will probably bend the keys a little, so just bend them back into shape.

Note: The keys are shaped like an "L" to provide a tab for grip. Make sure those tabs are pointed towards either door so you have a handle.

:word:

Just make sure it's pushed in straight and pryed a bit inwards at the handles so the tabs are popped out a bit...
