Seeking help

hey guys, so i recently just bought a 99 civic DX with 112k miles on it. My main goal was not to buy a civic but due to my budget and events that have happened,i ended up with it. Everything is stock except for an intake, and stage 2 clutch with a new shifter. Now, i dont know much about cars but as a newbie I try to learn something new everyday. My plan is to increase its performance, now i know with a civic there's a lot of parts but what should be the next step for me? I know its not going to be the fastest car on the street but i would like to give it some real good pick up and speed. If anyone can suggest any setup plans or what i should mod? Should i do an engine swap due to its s***ty 1.6 SOHC ? or just do nothing to this car and save up for what i wanted (wrx) idk im really confused and just need help

P.S. For some reason, i do not have an RPM gauge either, does that effect me from doing mods?

If you wanted a wrx then I suggest a boosted d series, you will have less into a boosted civic then you would pay for a wrx. D series are cheap and easy to work on and can handle plenty of power with a turbo and supporting mods
