i have a friend who has an older civic like 84-85 ish. i was curious are the wires the same for the stereo as they are for a 97 civic. liek speaker colors etc.

colors are usually similar, in my 88 lude, they were way off, but a metra wire harness can solve most of that confusion
www.the12volt.com has the stero wire diagrams for the car, go check it out.

IMO, since the car is so old anyway, re-wire your entire audio system. It'll sound better and you know it'll last.
