how i did it...
i had the same questions when I bought my 99 tweeters. I installed them into my 1996 Honda civic hx but the doors on the interior side are all the same. You have to take the door panel off first off just to make it easy for you to wire the tweeter. Take the speaker grill off. Take off 3 screws on the speaker, 3 screws around the speaker (part of door panel), 1 screw in the arm rest, and 1 screw in the door opener. Note: I have power windows. There might be different steps if you have non-powered windows. once you take out the screws to the handle and the arm rest, you can take these two items off of the door panel. after you take these items out you can basically just pop the panel off starting at the bottom working your way up. (roll your window down all the way, it makes it easier to pull the panel off) Don't forget to unplug your speaker in the door and the power window/lock harness. You should be able to see the black triangle where the tweeter will go. This simply pops out as well with the door panel off. Now to the real work. The wiring harness was still connected to the ends of my tweeters. You can disect these harness' so that they can come off and all thats left is the wires. If you just look closely at how the harness is put together it's pretty self explanitory how to take it apart. Then once you pop off the top of the harness, you just have to take a small flat head and stick it in the opposite side that the wires are in. there is one clip for each wire that you have to lift up in order for the wire to get free. Once you get both of the tweeters ready you have to add some speaker wire to run directly to the 6 1/2 in the door. The tweeters do come with an inline crossover so you don't have to worry about blowing them as they will only get high frequencies. Use electrical tape or solder the wires together since the wire will be exposed to moisture and heat. I ran the speaker wire with the other wires in the door. There are some parts that are covered by plastic, i just poked a hole and ran the wire through so it was neat and now it's partially protected too. Just make sure that the additional speaker wire that you added is the perfect length running down to the 6 1/2. Once everything is wired. give it a test to see if everything is in working order. if it is just follow the steps backwards to put the door panel back on. Door panel goes on first. In order to put this back, the tweeter has to be in place and you have to put the side of the door panel closer to the tweeter in first. You kind of have to angle it a little bit but then everything should fall in place. return the back of the door handle and the arm rest with it's relating screws. 3 screws back on the door panel around the speaker. Hook up the wires to the 6 1/2 and the tweeter to the 6 1/2". Use the 3 screws for that. The reinstall the speaker grill and you now have tweeters! I explained the best i could with the time given (i'm at work right now). If you have any questions hit me up. by the way, they sound hella good with the right cd. Crisp sound! Anyways GOOD LUCK!
