my buddy has a 91 crx i think.. hes going turbo. i was thinking about fuel managment. i took the map and tested it to see if it reads boost.. which it does. so my question is... can you run boost with out an fmu. hes got 450cc and AFPR

it would work, but you would have to make it hella rich, I just posted this somewhere else, but the honda ECU is been mapped. The progs to edit your fuel maps can be found at www.pgmfi.org

only thing an fmy does is add fuel pressure for every pound of boost. its pointless to run 450's without something to add more fuel under boost i.e. an fmu. you can get 450's with a fuel pressure regulator and set your fuel pressure at a certain psi which hopefully you only have set to 44-45 psi with vacuum line disconnected...and it will stay at that same pressure. so whats the use of having it...an fmy will add 12 psi of fuel pressure for every pound of boost granted you have a 12:1 fmu and thats where the injectors will pay off....even then you dont need the injectors if you have an fmu...you can use stock injectors. Here is what i would do if hes on a budget.
12:1 fmu - 100 bucks
255lph walbro - 100 bucks
thats it...fuel pump will be able to pump the fuel the fmu takes and the stock injectors etc. will be able to handle it...tons of people run that setup because its cheap and effective. if he has 440 injectors then he needs to get hondata uberdata afc hack or some s**t...

do yo uhave to use a check valve or anything for the map sensor? if the map reads boost then wouldnt it run super super rich with the fmu also?

i konw all the fmu stuff, thats why im trying to avoid that situation.the fmu works, yes, but the possibity of mechanical failure is verry real. if we could do it all electronicaly that would be prefereable.. without doing a whole crap load of electronic re wiring. we were thinking baout megasquirting it but thats out of the price range. thats why i asked if the stock pcm/system could handle boost without the fmu.

i dont know about a 91 crx but on my ek i have to use a missing link to hide boost from the map sensor. mechanical failure on an fmu is about as probable as a failure with anything else.
