I am having problems finding info for a SOHC ZC swap for my 88 CRX. It's the standard model (fits in the DX catagory) and I didn't know if the SOHC would fit the same, what parts I'd needed, or if it fit the stock tranny like the DOHC.

Any help is greatly apreciated since my engine just blew a sparkplug out of the block due to stupid people working on the car before I bought it a week ago.

the sohc zc goes right in and will fit all your stock s**t fine.

But you may want to consider getting a d16z6 out of a 92-95 civic ex. It has more aftermarket support, and is an overall better engine. My sohc zc leaks oil after only 76k miles with all regular maintence performance and not driven excessivley hard, it isnt a great engine, and doesnt even have much more performance compared to a d16a6 (88-91 ex/si motor)

As for swapping the d16z6 in it will take a little more work like converting your car to odb1, and all the wiring that goes along with that. There are many resources availble on the web for this, and fellow cc member 'gta' has this swap in his 88 civic dx hatch.

ok, here are my Q's
will the d16z6 need mount conversions?
will a computer and harness adaptor work for changing to OBD1?
isn't the d16z6 the US version of the ZC?

A) the d16z6 uses your stock mounts
B) not sure, send gta a pm
C) no, the d16z6 is a sohc vtec out of the 92-95 civic ex, zc's dont have vtec.

ok.

1. since 3 out of the four mounts are on your tranny you use your stocks there. on the forth you take the bracket off your 88-91 engine and put it in place of th eone on the z6 (timing belt cover will need a lil trim to fit)

2. yup. after you convert your dx harness to MPFI, you can plug an obd0-obd1 conversion harness in and then a p28. all you need to do is run 8 wires from that harness.

3.d16z6 is out of 92-95 civic ex's and si's.

gta, what kind of times are you running with the z6? i've seen some people claim high 14s with i/h/e on street tires...that sounds too good to be true...

So what is all envolved with just the sohc zc swap. Japan star motors is selling the zc with wire harness, ecu,and all the other regular stuff for $600. Would that constitute as a (plug and play setup)? Does the zc use all of the stock motor mounts and all that good stuff? By the way I'm wanting to swap this into a 90crx hf. Help me out guys. I'm going to pick up the car sunday and start giving it life again. I just want something in-expensive but worthy of mods. By the way, if I were to go throught with the swap, what kind of intakes, and ignition boxes, header, and other mods would I look for. I guess to narrow down this question is, what kind of car does this engine come from if any, stock? Like, say I want an intake. Would I look for an intake from an Integra or civic or accord or what. And also, what about regular oil changes and tune ups? What spark plugs? What model number oil filter?
