I have ONE sony xplod subwoofer. it says rated power:300w, and Peak power:1100.

i was wondering if i could hook up a 1200w amp to it without blowing it.

i'm a noob at this.

Id suggest not too. Always pay attention to the RMS(rated) power. Companies put peak power on to make the product seem 100 times better then it truly is. Truth to it is that it can hit the peak power rating for a second before blowing.

If you do use the amp DO NOT turn it up all the way. Which is pointless because you only get about a 1/3 of the power of the amp.

Peak power is when a certain tone is reaching "1400" watts. human ears are only able to detect RMS.

So, that 300 watt sub needs to be paired with the correct amp that wont over do it. I'm not going to search for you, but go to your local audio store and tell them what sub you have and what amp would be good for it.

probably a mono channel amp, so go ask best-buy or whoever you go to, they'll tell you.
