i am working on a car i just got and am stumped after searching online most of today. 1996 civic sedan with d16y7 all stock. previous owner said they were driving and it just shut off. i put a new distributor and spark plugs on and have perfect white spark. fuel pump is working fine. i did try to start with starting fluid in the intake and never even sputtered. no check engine lights, and is timed correctly. i took out the main relay and its fine. i really have no idea what else to check. any input is appreciated.

it has good compression, i checked that. i also hooked my scanner up to it and no dtc came up. i also cranked while looking at my scanner and it shows the rpm moving so im guessing the crank position sensor is working properly. i just get more and more lost as to why it wont start the more im getting into it.

all spark plug wires and fuel injector clips are fine. i tested the injectors for power and they do have power.

cylinder 1 - 100#
cylinder 2 - 160#
cylinder 3 - 90#
cylinder 4 - 120#

i know the one is low, but it should still run with those numbers.

here are some pics of timing, the one pic is kinda hard to see, but it is timed correctly.

3 not perfect cylinders, yes. but even with those compression numbers it should try to start at the very least. i did do the test at wot.

i just took all the injectors out and cleaned them with sea foam cuz the plugs were dry when i was cranking it over. they were really dirty, so now the plugs are wet after trying to crank it over.. meaning no spark. though it has perfect spark when not screwed in, yes i know what bad/weak spark looks like, this is perfect.

re checked the timing again and the back marks line up aswell. timing is spot on. so some reason wasnt getting spark at the correct time.... idk how that is when the timing belt is timed perfect..

i just tried switching the 2 and 3 cylinder spark plug wires around and it actually started... ran like s**t but it started. it doesnt even try to with the plugs in the correct order.

omg, the distributor itself was 180 off. makes me feel like an idiot it took me so long to figure that out. oh well though, runs perfect now.
