Speaker size question

Hey guys I've searched on a few different sites and haven't been able to find the answer I'm looking for. I am in the process of buying new rear speakers for my 95 accord. What I don't understand is why crutchfield says certain 6 X 9s fit (mainly two way) and certain ones don't. At first I thought it was because top mount depth was different for 3 ways but looking at the specs, they seem to have the same dimensions. Any help is appreciated, I'm still relatively new to car audio. Thanks =)

alot of different speakers utilize different mounting positions, rather than the standard located four points. This is in part that newer cars (post90) began using odd mounting positions dues to space constraints.

So how difficult would it be to mount a 6 X 9 that crutchfield says will not fit? Is that the only reason they're said to not fit? Because mounting points are different

It all depends.. You definitely have to ensure they will not obstruct the torsion rods for the trunk, etc..
Being an ex-installer (MECP 1st Class Cert. current), 'anything' is possible. But for the average DIYer, it's best to get the drop-n-bop units. ;)
Your best bet may be to go on Honda-tech.com and ask the Accord guys what does/doesn't fit and why..

Me having not done an Accord in awhile, it isn't fresh in my mind, sorry.

You were right, HT had the exact answer I was looking for. It sounds like the tweeters do not fit under the speaker grille. Isn't that a simple fix, with just a dremel or something and cut away the inside of the speaker grille? Or I guess it could always be kept ghetto with no grilles

My 6.5 infinitys that go in the front of my car dont fit well. Ive had to cut all sorts of the plastic of the door mount because the magnet is just way too big, and the way its setup it can only be screwed in with "1" screw. Its really not worth it, im going to give them away to a friend and get some 6.5s that actually fit correctly, not worth the hassle.

i agree...honda has funky speaker mounting...i dont like that i mount my front speakers to plastic and the rear speakers are a b***h to get at... (i have a 97 DX coupe)...but like qwikxr says...anything is possible...it all takes some thought...look at it more than once...draw it out if you have to...if you are going to mount a new speaker that screw holes dont mount up with, hold it in place...mark it with a sharpie...drill pilot holes...be mindful of the carpet, plastic and all that...i have made many dumb mistakes on my own car with out asking for help or thinking it thru...there is nothing like doing something twice...three times...

what infinity's? i will offer to buy them...
